Job alerts for senior and leadership roles: what actually works
Updated 2026-11-07 · numbers from OpeningsFirst’s count of employers’ own career pages, refreshed daily.
Short answer: set your alert by level and function, not by exact title, and make it read employers’ career pages rather than job boards. Senior roles are fewer, get many applicants in the first days, and are often on the company’s careers site days before anywhere else. This week 12,198 new senior and manager-level jobs appeared on career pages in India and 69,093 in the US.
What goes wrong with most senior alerts
- Title keywords miss most roles. “Engineering Manager”, “Head of Engineering”, “Director, Software Engineering” and “Group Engineering Manager” are the same job family; a keyword alert catches one of them.
- Board alerts arrive late. A board alert fires when the board gets the job, often a repost of a careers-page listing that is already days old.
- Too much noise. Senior filters on boards often let through junior roles, so the useful ones get lost.
A setup that works
- Pick the levels you’d take: Senior, Lead / Manager, Director, Executive.
- Pick up to three functions or roles.
- Add cities, or remote.
- Get it twice a day, and read it the same day.
OpeningsFirst does this from 108,125 career sites in the US and India.
