Director of Nursing Emergency Room Overview • The Director of Nursing Emergency Room oversees the operations of the Emergency Department, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. • Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental policies, nursing procedural manuals, and job descriptions. • Collaborates with administration and other department leaders for intradepartmental planning and integration of services. • Ensures high standards of patient care and operational efficiency in a 146-bed independent hospital. • Provides strategic leadership to the Emergency Department team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. • Manages staff recruitment, evaluation, and development to ensure optimal performance and patient care delivery. • Prepares and monitors departmental budgets, ensuring financial accountability and resource optimization. • Utilizes advanced nursing knowledge to guide department operations and maintain compliance with all relevant regulations. Director of Nursing Emergency Room Key Responsibilities & Duties • Direct daily operations of the Emergency Department, ensuring adherence to standards and policies. • Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and nursing manuals. • Lead recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and professional development of department staff. • Collaborate with administration and other departments for program development and service integration. • Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and DNV regulations in department operations. • Monitor quality performance metrics and implement improvement strategies. • Manage labor resources and departmental scheduling to optimize efficiency. • Prepare and oversee the annual budget, ensuring financial accountability. • Utilize computer systems, including Meditech, for operational management and reporting. Director of Nursing Emergency Room Job Requirements • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution; advanced degree preferred. • Minimum of 5 years of Emergency Department experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing practices, regulations, and guidelines in hospital settings. • Proven experience in quality performance monitoring and labor management. • Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage departmental budgets effectively. • Proficiency in computer systems, particularly Meditech, for operational management. • Strong time management skills, including prioritization and meeting deadlines. • Licensed by the NC Board of Nursing, with active credentials.
