Job Summary The Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular teacher. In a Catholic school setting, the substitute supports the academic program while modeling Christian values, maintaining classroom structure, and contributing to a respectful, faith-filled learning environment. Job Responsibilities • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the regular teacher • Deliver instruction across various subjects and grade levels (typically K–8 or high school, depending on assignment) • Maintain classroom order and enforce school rules and policies • Ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment • Take attendance and manage daily classroom routines • Adapt to different classrooms, subjects, and grade levels as needed • Communicate relevant information about student behavior or progress to school staff • Supervise students during class, transitions, lunch, recess, or dismissal as assigned • Respect and support the Catholic identity and mission of the school, including participation in prayer or religious activities when appropriate Job Requirements • Valid substitute teaching license/permit (as required by state/diocese) • Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational setting • Ability to follow directions and manage a classroom effectively The Archdiocese of St. Louis Catholic Education and Formation is an Equal Opportunity Employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind.
