PROCESS SAFETY MANAGEMENT (PSM) ENGINEER Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana Industry: Chemical Manufacturing POSITION SUMMARY The PSM Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving the site’s Process Safety Management program, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing process safety risks, and promoting a strong safety culture. This role works closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership to improve process safety performance and ensure the safe operation of plant assets. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Develop, maintain, and improve PSM programs, procedures, and systems. • Lead and participate in process hazard analyses, including HAZOPs, PHAs, LOPAs, and SIL assessments. • Conduct incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. • Identify and execute risk-reduction and continuous improvement initiatives. • Support PSM audits, compliance activities, and performance reporting. • Provide process safety training and technical guidance to cross-functional teams. • Manage projects, coordinate stakeholders, and communicate improvement opportunities to site leadership. QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related technical field. • 5+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing. • 5+ years of experience with Process Safety Management systems and programs. • Experience leading risk assessments and managing projects with budgets exceeding $50,000. • Strong knowledge of chemical processes, plant operations, risk management, and regulatory compliance. • Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills. • PSM certifications, auditing experience, and formal project management training are preferred.
