Job Title Registered Nurse – PCU / IMC / Stepdown Location Winston-Salem, NC | Acute Care Schedule / Job Type Contract | Days | 12-Hour Shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM) | 3x12 | Expected 36 hours/week | Every other weekend required Key Responsibilities • Provide direct patient care on a high-acuity mixed PCU and Med-Surg/Telemetry unit with a 48-bed capacity and expected nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4–5 • Manage and monitor patients presenting with COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, pulmonary embolism, COVID-19, influenza, and related comorbidities • Operate and monitor specialized equipment including chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, chronic trach/vent patients, and IV drips (Dopamine, Cardizem, Heparin); no nurse is expected to manage more than one vent patient at a time • Perform IV starts, interpret and manage dysrhythmias, and conduct telemetry monitoring • Document accurately using EPIC, Pyxis, and SBAR communication frameworks • Float to like units as required; collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including an Admission/Discharge Nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, Vascular Access Team, RRT, Code Team, and Behavioral Health Team Required Qualifications • Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state (license pending acceptable for submission) • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required • Previous travel nursing experience required • ACLS and BLS certifications required • Proficiency in IV starts, ventilator management, telemetry, CPAP/BiPAP, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management • Must pass EKG testing prior to start • Local candidates are welcome; candidates within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a local rate Preferred Experience / Skills • NIHSS certification preferred • Experience caring for patients with chest tubes, drip management, and complex respiratory conditions • Familiarity with EPIC, Pyxis, and SBAR documentation systems Why Join Us • Work within a well-supported unit structure that includes a team lead, respiratory therapists, an Assistant Nurse Manager on shift (including weekends), and dedicated support roles to help manage high acuity • Block scheduling may be available when unit needs are met, offering flexibility for travel clinicians
