City of Hope’s growing national system includes its Los Angeles campus, a network of clinical care locations across Southern California, a new cancer center in Orange County, California, and treatment facilities in Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix. Our dedicated and compassionate employees are driven by a common mission: To deliver the cures of tomorrow to the people who need them today. City of Hope is undergoing a transformative evolution of its commercialization and strategic partnerships organization to accelerate the translation of scientific innovation into impactful solutions for patients. As we build a more integrated and externally facing commercial engine, we are expanding capabilities across business development, venture creation, strategic partnerships, translational acceleration, and innovation ecosystem development. This is a unique opportunity to help shape a next-generation commercialization organization designed to strengthen industry collaboration, advance breakthrough therapies and technologies, and maximize the impact of City of Hope’s world-class research enterprise. The Executive Director, Financial Planning & Commercialization Growth will lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and growth modeling across City of Hope’s Commercial Organization. This highly visible executive role will partner closely with Finance, Commercial Leadership, Business Development, Licensing, Legal, Intellectual Property, and program teams to forecast commercial revenue opportunities, build enterprise growth models, and drive strategic decision-making. You will play a pivotal role in evaluating innovation investments, commercialization pipelines, strategic partnerships, and emerging revenue streams while helping shape the future growth of a nationally recognized cancer research and treatment organization. As a successful candidate, you will: • Lead the annual and multi-year budgeting process across the Commercial Organization, ensuring alignment between financial plans and strategic priorities. • Develop sophisticated financial models to forecast revenue from commercialization activities, including licensing, royalties, milestones, equity participation, sponsored research, and strategic partnerships. • Build short-, medium-, and long-term growth forecasts and scenario models to support executive decision-making and institutional planning. • Partner with Business Development, Licensing, Intellectual Property, and Hope Catalyst teams to assess commercialization pipeline value and growth opportunities. • Create frameworks to measure and track commercialization value creation, including revenue generation, equity value, strategic partnerships, and future milestone potential. • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to guide resource allocation, investment prioritization, staffing decisions, and commercialization initiatives. • Develop business cases for emerging growth opportunities, including venture creation, diagnostics, data partnerships, GMP-related commercialization, and innovation platform services. • Support evaluation of partnership, licensing, and business development transactions by modeling financial impact and long-term value creation. • Design and deliver executive dashboards and performance reporting that provide visibility into budgets, growth targets, pipeline value, and return on investment. • Drive operational excellence through standardized forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and financial governance processes that support a culture of accountability and data-driven decision-making. Your qualifications should include: • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Healthcare Administration, Life Sciences, or a related field required. • Advanced degree (MBA, MHA, MS Finance, or equivalent) preferred. • Minimum 15 years of experience in financial planning and analysis, strategic finance, budgeting, forecasting, commercialization finance, healthcare finance, life sciences finance, or business operations. • Demonstrated success leading budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes across multiple departments or complex organizations. • Advanced financial modeling expertise, including revenue forecasting, scenario planning, growth modeling, pipeline valuation, and business case development. • Experience partnering with executive leaders on strategic planning, investment decisions, resource allocation, and performance management. • Strong expertise in financial reporting, dashboard development, KPI creation, and executive-level analytics. • Experience translating complex business and commercialization opportunities into actionable financial insights and recommendations. • Preferred experience within healthcare, academic medicine, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, technology transfer, venture creation, or commercialization environments. • Familiarity with commercialization revenue models, including licensing, royalties, milestones, equity participation, start-up creation, sponsored research, and strategic partnerships. • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, project management, and stakeholder management skills. • CPA, CFA, or comparable financial credential preferred but not required. This is an exceptional opportunity for a strategic finance executive to help shape the future of innovation, commercialization, and growth at one of the nation’s leading cancer research and treatment organizations. If you are energized by building financial frameworks that accelerate breakthrough discoveries from the laboratory to patients around the world, we encourage you to apply today. City of Hope employees’ pay is based on the following criteria: work experience, qualifications, and work location. City of Hope is an equal opportunity employer.
