WSP is currently initiating a search for full-time System Operator IV - Assistant Operations Manager at our Transportation Management Center! This role is based in Hawthorne, NY. Position Summary The Assistant Operations Manager runs the HVTMC operations floor day to day. This is the senior supervisor on the floor, leading the operators who monitor the network, coordinate incident response, and keep traffic moving across the Hudson Valley. The role reports directly to the Operations Manager and steps in as Operations Manager when that position is out, at the request of NYSDOT/Consultant project management. This is a key position with 24/7 on-call availability by phone. Key Responsibilities • Lead and direct operators on all shifts: set priorities, assign coverage, and make the call during active incidents. • Coordinate incident management with NYSDOT, State Police, local PD, fire, EMS, and 911 centers, from detection through clearance. • Monitor floor activity in real time and step in on major incidents, closures, weather events, and bridge strikes. • Run QA on operator output: incident logs, VMS messages, notifications, and shift passdowns. Correct issues and coach as needed. • Train new operators and keep existing staff current on SOPs, systems, and protocols. • Review and update floor procedures and protocols as conditions and systems change. • Manage schedules, callouts, and overtime to keep the floor fully staffed. • Review performance measures and data quality and flag trends to the Operations Manager. • Support contract administration and transition activities under Tasks 1, 2, 7, and 10 (Attachment 13). • Be able to perform any Operator-level function when needed. Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus 1 year of qualifying experience, OR 5 years of full-time qualifying experience • Valid driver's license • TMC, traffic, or dispatch operations experience in military, transportation, fire, police, EMS, or 911 • Experience managing operations and supervising 15 or more staff • Experience reviewing and updating procedures and protocols • Strong oral and written communication; proficient in MS Office, spreadsheets, and databases • Proven ability to work professionally with clients and respond to problems 24/7 Desired Qualifications • Data analytics, including systems and data evaluation • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and integrity • Stays steady under pressure and works well as a team with the client WSP Benefits: WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career. Expected Compensation: All Locations: $80,000 - $100,000 WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and specific geographic location.
