About Formlabs: To reinvent an industry, you have to build the best team. Join Formlabs to be part of our mission to build the tools that enable anyone to bring their ideas to life. Each Formlabs printer is a precision machine —a seamless orchestration of optics, mechanics, and chemistry. Its intelligence is driven by the critical layer in between: the firmware interpreting sensor data, the electrical architecture linking subsystems, and the integration layer that transforms individual components into a reliable tool for surgeons, engineers, and manufacturers worldwide. This is our printer’s nervous system, and we are searching for the leader to own its evolution. Norbert Wiener coined the term cybernetics at MIT in 1948 to capture the idea of control systems across artificial and biological systems, kicking off decades of progress in this area. Over time, it has been broken down into narrow professional disciplines, including high-level software, embedded software, digital hardware design, analog hardware design, and mechanical engineering. It’s time to reunite these fields to refocus on the goal - make systems flexible, robust, and intelligent. What You’ll Do: • Ship amazing products that are loved by customers and make a dent in the universe by making it easier for people to go from an idea to a real thing. • Scale a world-class cybernetics engineering team, leading embedded engineering, systems integration, and electrical engineering globally. • Solve for Performance. Drive the embedded and electrical breakthroughs that enable our printers to do what others think is impossible. • Build the Brain. Create a modular architecture (main boards, chipsets, peripherals) that scales across our entire ecosystem. • Iterate at Speed. Move from "what if" to a working prototype faster than anyone else in the industry. About You: • You've shipped complex electromechanical products to production in high-performance environments — you understand what changes when you go from prototype to 100,000 units in the field • You have built high-performance teams. • You are impatient and want to ship great products quickly. • You are customer-obsessed, with a deep focus on the business to ensure we are building the right solutions for our customers • You dive deep into technical details across engineering and physics domains. Bonus Skills: • Passion and experience in 3D printing • Entrepreneurial experience that taught you what it takes to scale a business Our Benefits & Perks: • Robust equity program to build future wealth through RSUs • Comprehensive healthcare coverage (Medical, Dental, Vision) • 401K matching and access to financial advisors • Generous paid Parental Leave (up to 16 weeks) • Tenure-based paid Sabbatical Leave (up to 6 weeks) • Flexible Out of Office Plan – Take time when you need it • Ample on-site parking & pre-tax commuter benefits • Healthy on-site lunches, snacks, beverages, & treats • Regularly sponsored professional development opportunities • Many opt-in culture events across our diverse community • And of course… unlimited 3D prints We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. Even if you don't check every box, but see yourself contributing, please apply. Help us build an inclusive community that will change the face of 3D printing. Compensation Equity is a big part of the compensation package at Formlabs - every employee receives equity because everyone contributes to building the company. We have a lot of confidence in the products we’re building and the impact we’re making, and you should too. Base pay is the other part of our compensation package, and it is carefully determined based on your skills, experience, and expected impact. Equity and base pay combine to make up your total compensation package at Formlabs. The annual base pay range for this role is: $200,000—$300,000 USD
