Description • Locates and repairs leaks in the water distribution and wastewater collection system. • Installs new water and sewer mains and services. • Operates remote control and manual camera units to identify line blockages and breaks. • Repairs and replace fire hydrants. • Locates and excavates underground utilities; makes street, sidewalk and lawn repairs. • Makes sewer and water main line repairs. • Repairs manholes. • Change out meters. • Replace meter boxes and lids. • Read and record water usage data along an assigned route through the use of radio read device or manually. • Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment. • Performs related duties. Requirements • Knowledge of department safety policies and procedures. • Knowledge of water and wastewater system maintenance and repair principles. • Knowledge of utility meter operations and maintenance principles. • Knowledge of area streets and roads. • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance principles. • Skill in the use of handheld computers and job-related software. • Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles and equipment. • Skill in the use of hand and power tools. • Skill in problem solving. • Skill in interpersonal relations. • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Georgia state-certified license for Water Distribution Systems Operators. • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Georgia state-certified license for Wastewater Collection Systems Operators.
