Description Position Summary The Facilities & Grounds Maintenance Specialist is responsible for maintaining the buildings, grounds, and general physical assets across our four scrap yard locations. This is a hands-on, handyman-style position for someone who enjoys fixing, building, improving, and maintaining facilities. The ideal candidate is versatile and capable of handling a wide range of projects including construction and carpentry, painting, landscaping, facility repairs, and general property maintenance. Welding and fabrication experience is strongly preferred. The goal of this position is simple: keep our properties, buildings, and assets safe, functional, clean, professional, and well maintained. This position will travel between company locations based on maintenance needs and project priorities. Key Responsibilities Building & Facility Maintenance • Perform general repairs and preventative maintenance on company buildings and facilities. • Complete basic construction, carpentry, framing, trim, and repair projects. • Repair doors, gates, fencing, walls, ceilings, shelving, cabinets, and other facility components. • Perform interior and exterior painting, patching, caulking, and finishing. • Identify building deterioration or damage and address issues before they become larger repairs. • Assist with minor plumbing and other basic facility repairs within the employee's skill level. • Coordinate with management when a project requires a licensed or specialized contractor. Grounds & Property Maintenance • Maintain the overall appearance and condition of all company properties. • Perform landscaping, weed control, trimming, cleanup, and general grounds maintenance. • Maintain parking areas, entrances, fencing, gates, signage, and common areas. • Remove debris and address trip hazards, damaged areas, and other property concerns. • Help ensure each location maintains a clean, organized, and professional appearance. Welding & Fabrication Welding experience preferred. • Perform basic welding and fabrication repairs when qualified. • Repair gates, fencing, railings, brackets, racks, containers, and other metal components. • Fabricate simple solutions for facility and operational needs. • Maintain welding tools and equipment in safe working condition. Construction & Improvement Projects • Assist with facility upgrades, remodels, and improvement projects. • Build walls, storage areas, workstations, shelving, barriers, enclosures, and other structures as needed. • Install fixtures, hardware, signage, cabinets, shelving, and facility accessories. • Measure, cut, assemble, install, and finish materials accurately. • Help management develop practical, cost-effective solutions to property and facility needs. Company Asset Upkeep • Help maintain company-owned physical assets outside of production equipment. • Inspect company property for damage, deterioration, or needed repairs. • Maintain tools, ladders, pressure washers, landscaping equipment, maintenance equipment, and supplies assigned to the position. • Keep maintenance materials and commonly used repair parts organized and stocked. • Protect company property by completing preventative maintenance rather than waiting for assets to fail. • Report significant damage, safety concerns, or repair needs to management promptly. Multi-Location Responsibilities This position supports four company locations and must be comfortable traveling between facilities. The Facilities & Grounds Maintenance Specialist will: • Conduct routine property walkthroughs. • Maintain an ongoing repair and project list for each location. • Prioritize safety-related and operationally critical repairs. • Coordinate projects with Location Managers. • Complete preventative maintenance before problems become expensive repairs. • Communicate project status, material needs, and anticipated completion dates. • Take ownership of seeing assigned projects through to completion. Requirements Qualifications Required: • valid drivers license • Strong general handyman and maintenance skills. • Experience with construction, carpentry, painting, landscaping, concrete or property maintenance. • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools. • Ability to troubleshoot problems and determine practical repair solutions. • Ability to work independently and manage projects across multiple locations. • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between company facilities. • Ability to perform physically demanding work in indoor and outdoor environments. Preferred: • Welding and metal fabrication experience. • Commercial or industrial property maintenance experience. • Construction or remodeling experience. • Basic plumbing knowledge. • Basic electrical knowledge. • Experience repairing fencing, gates, concrete, metal structures, and industrial facilities. • Experience operating skid steers, forklifts, lifts, or similar equipment. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Because this position supports active scrap metal facilities, the employee must be comfortable working in an industrial environment. The position may require: • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions. • Walking on uneven industrial surfaces. • Climbing ladders and working at heights when properly equipped. • Bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling. • Regularly lifting and carrying tools, materials, and supplies. • Working around heavy equipment and active scrap yard operations. • Wearing required PPE and following all company safety procedures. What Winning Looks Like in This Role A successful Facilities & Grounds Maintenance Specialist doesn't simply respond when something breaks. They notice problems early and take ownership of the condition of our properties. Success means: • Buildings are maintained instead of neglected. • Grounds are clean and professional. • Small repairs are handled before they become expensive problems. • Gates, fencing, doors, signage, and property assets remain functional. • Maintenance projects are completed correctly and don't have to be repeatedly repaired. • Tools and maintenance supplies are organized and accounted for. • Location Managers know the status of their requested projects. • Safety hazards are identified and corrected quickly. • Company assets are protected and their useful life is extended. Ideal Candidate The ideal person for this role is a highly capable jack-of-all-trades who takes pride in their work. They are the type of person who can walk through a property, notice what needs attention, develop a solution, gather the necessary materials, and get the job completed without requiring constant direction. They are dependable, resourceful, safety-minded, organized, and take personal ownership of keeping company facilities and assets in excellent working condition.
