Full description

About Protocol Behavioral Health Protocol provides cancer-specific behavioral health treatment to patients by partnering with oncology clinics and cancer centers. Oncology patients are at heightened risk of mental health disorders and suicide, and those conditions negatively impact patient outcomes, treatment adherence, and total cost of care. Our approach is designed to meet patients where they are—emotionally, logistically, and financially. We deliver high-quality mental health support for cancer patients using the collaborative care model, integrated directly into oncology treatment centers. About the role Through a Collaborative Care Model partnership with oncology clinics, the Behavioral Health Care Manager (BHCM) is responsible for providing evidence-based treatment (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy among others) to patients with cancer. The BHCM is responsible for treatment delivery via telehealth (video and phone), documentation and communication with oncology teams, consultation with the Protocol consulting psychiatrist, maintenance of the patient registry, and ongoing assessment of patient progress. What you will be doing • Conduct structured assessments of mental and behavioral health and functioning of oncology patients referred by partner cancer centers and clinics. • Develop treatment plans based on assessment results using Protocol’s evidence-based modular treatment approach. • Implement treatment modules and conduct ongoing progress assessment to guide next steps in care and make changes as indicated by patient progress. • Maintain a patient registry aligned with requirements of the Collaborative Care Model. • Participate in weekly consultation meetings with Protocol’s consulting psychiatrist • Communicate and collaborate with oncology teams about patient progress and recommendations and attend care coordination meetings as needed. • Maintain a patient caseload targeting 65% patient-facing time. • Participate in initial and ongoing training required by Protocol. • Utilize between-session messaging as indicated to support patients. • Engage in ongoing supervision and department meetings. • (If licensed) maintain licensure in home state and obtain licensure in other states as requested by Protocol (licensure costs will be covered by Protocol). • Perform other duties as assigned. What we are looking for • Active, unrestricted license to provide mental health treatment in at least one U.S. state preferred; however, pre-licensed candidates are also accepted. • Ability to support a caseload of patients of different diagnoses, backgrounds and cultures, and with varying degrees of acuity. • Ability to deliver care in a virtual setting. • Experience with patients with oncology and/or chronic/serious medical conditions. • Experience supporting patients with suicidal ideation and/or trauma. • Plus if certified proficient for practice in Spanish or Mandarin. How we support you • Extensive training in evidence-based treatment modules for cancer patients and ongoing consultation and professional development opportunities aligned with psycho-oncology care • We make sure you get the care you need by providing medical, dental, and vision insurance • A 401k to save for you future • Flexible paid time off so that you have the time away from work to decompress and take care of what you need • Malpractice insurance covered by us! • We cover the cost for any continued education and license renewals that are required for you to take care of our patients Why work at Protocol? Working at Protocol Behavioral Health means joining a purpose-driven team at the forefront of transforming cancer care through compassionate, integrated mental health support. Every team member plays a vital role in addressing one of the most overlooked challenges in oncology: ensuring patients have timely access to high-quality behavioral health care. With a leadership team composed of seasoned experts from top healthcare and behavioral health organizations, Protocol offers a rare opportunity to learn from the best while helping build something truly meaningful from the ground up. We foster a collaborative, mission-first culture where innovation, empathy, and excellence are not just encouraged, they’re expected. Employees benefit from remote work, competitive healthcare coverage, generous paid time off, and the fulfillment of knowing their work directly improves lives. If you’re looking to grow professionally while making a tangible difference in healthcare, Protocol could be a great fit for you.
