Professional Fundraiser - $20/hr Guaranteed + Bonuses
$20/hour guaranteed + bonuses | 21-35 hours/week | Los Angeles
Build Experience That Goes Somewhere
Looking to turn your communication skills into real professional experience?
Public Outreach is hiring fundraisers in Los Angeles to represent leading nonprofit organizations working across human rights, civil liberties, humanitarian relief, global poverty, and support for communities affected by crisis.
You'll earn $20/hour guaranteed + bonuses while building practical experience in fundraising, advocacy, communication, and leadership.
No fundraising experience is required. Paid training is provided, and we're hiring quickly - successful candidates may move from interview to paid training or field work within the same week.
What You'll Do
You'll work face-to-face with the public throughout Los Angeles, raising awareness and inspiring people to become monthly donors.
You'll learn how to:
• Start conversations and build rapport with new people
• Turn complex issues into clear, engaging conversations
• Tell compelling stories about the work you're representing
• Answer questions and handle objections
• Confidently ask people to become monthly donors
• Work toward clear fundraising goals
• Apply coaching and continuously improve your approach
You'll work alongside a partner or team - you won't be sent out fundraising alone.
Work on Causes That Matter
Depending on your campaign, you may fundraise around issues including:
• Civil liberties and human rights
• Humanitarian emergencies and disaster response
• Refugee and immigrant rights
• Freedom from discrimination
• Women's rights and gender equality
• Global poverty and food insecurity
• Emergency food, water, shelter, and medical support
• Communities affected by conflict and displacement
Campaign assignments can change based on the needs of our nonprofit partners.
You don't need to arrive as an expert. We'll teach you about the campaign - you bring the curiosity and willingness to learn.
Build Skills You Can Take With You
Fundraising develops skills that transfer into careers in nonprofit work, advocacy, communications, sales, community organizing, marketing, and leadership.
You'll get hands-on experience in:
• Public speaking
• Persuasive communication
• Storytelling
• Community outreach
• Donor engagement
• Goal setting
• Handling objections and rejection
• Receiving and applying feedback
Our leaders are promoted from within, with opportunities to grow into training, coaching, and leadership.
Whether Public Outreach becomes a chapter in your career or the place you build one, we want you to leave stronger than when you started.
What the Job Is Really Like
We want you to know what you're signing up for.
This is an active, public-facing, performance-based job.
You'll spend much of your shift walking, standing, working outdoors, and approaching people you've never met.
You'll also hear "no" more often than "yes."
Your $20/hour starting wage is guaranteed - this is not commission-only work - but you'll work toward clear fundraising goals and your performance matters.
We'll provide paid training, ongoing coaching, and support from experienced fundraisers. You bring the resilience to learn, adjust, and keep going.
Your Schedule
We know many of our team members have lives and goals outside of work.
This role can work alongside classes, auditions, rehearsals, freelance work, creative projects, or other commitments - as long as you can give us a consistent weekly schedule.
You must be able to commit to at least 3 complete 7-hour shifts per week - a minimum of 21 hours.
Current shifts generally include:
• 10:00 AM-5:00 PM
• 12:00 PM-7:00 PM
• Earlier starts may sometimes be available on weekends
Shift options can change depending on the campaign and needs of the team.
Full-shift availability is required. Partial shifts generally cannot be accommodated.
We're Hiring Quickly
If you're ready for your next opportunity, we don't want to make you wait weeks for a decision.
We're prioritizing applicants who can start within the next few weeks - ideally sooner.
If there's a strong mutual fit after your interview, our hiring process can move quickly. Some successful candidates may begin paid training or field work within the same week they interview.
Pay & Benefits
• $20/hour guaranteed starting wage
• Bonus opportunities
• Paid training from day one
• 21-35 hours per week
• Full-time and part-time opportunities
• Regular pay reviews
• Health, dental, and vision benefits for eligible full-time employees after 3 months
• Paid time off
• Employee Assistance Program
• Ongoing coaching and professional development
• Opportunities to move into training and leadership
Who We're Looking For
You don't need previous fundraising experience.
You may be a great fit if you:
• Communicate confidently and enjoy meeting new people
• Care about humanitarian, human rights, or social-impact issues
• Want to build professional communication and leadership skills
• Are comfortable working toward clear goals
• Can handle rejection without letting it stop you
• Are open to feedback and willing to improve
• Enjoy active work rather than sitting behind a desk
• Can reliably commit to at least 3 full shifts each week
• Are ready to start soon
Experience in hospitality, customer service, sales, theatre, public speaking, advocacy, volunteering, community outreach, or other people-facing work can translate especially well.
Come As You Are
Our teams include members of the LGBTQ+ community, and we're committed to creating a workplace where people feel safe, respected, and comfortable being themselves.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, identities, and career paths.
Bring your personality, your perspective, and your willingness to learn.
