USN/USMC Learning Officer
Required Qualifications:
• Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in education or a technical field such as computer science. Post-graduate education in AI, Computer Science, or a relevant discipline would be advantageous.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in professional education and training, preferably within a military context, including a demonstrated track record of successful implementation of large-scale learning initiatives.
• Stakeholder and Community Engagement: Demonstrated experience working with key stakeholders and developing professional communities and implementing strategic initiatives. This includes the ability to communicate and coordinate effectively across departments and ranks.
Desired Qualifications:
• Curriculum Development: Ability to develop, propose, and evaluate training and education offerings, balancing the requirements of existing programs with the need for new learning initiatives.
• Experience in assessing and evaluating training and education programs for suitability and effectiveness. This includes the ability to adjust strategies based on feedback and outcomes.
• Direct experience with AI or data science, at the technical and/or management and/or educational level.
• Familiarity of the career progression within the US Navy and USMC. Experience with skill certification programs in the Department of the Navy would be a significant plus.
This is an in-person or remote position, without preference for one or the other. The position requires availability for travel to give or oversee training events and to the in-person quarterly summits. A total of about eight trips per year is anticipated.
Sample tasks and responsibilities:
• Determine the top three obstacles for more quickly and frequently implementing and deploying AI-involved systems in operational commands
• Plan and conduct trips to commands to determine their additional or lacking needs in order to accelerate AI adoption (the knowledge, skills, abilities that would help)
• Propose training and education in AI for active duty US Naval Officers that is “minimally disruptive” to their existing training and education program.
• Engage with N7/N71 as key stakeholder and eventual implementer for additional training and education
• Determine the need and desire for a US Navy “AI Community” and career path, possibly a Unrestricted Line Officer
• Assess and evaluate training and education offerings for suitability to achieve the above objectives
• Pursue an official skill certification (called “AI Rating”) and engage with the team that created the Robotics Rating
