The YMCA of Greater New York is here for all New Yorkers — to empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community. Founded in 1852, today the Y serves a diverse population of more than half a million New Yorkers who learn, grow, and thrive through programs and services at our 24 branches. Community is the cornerstone of the Y. Together, we connect active, engaged New Yorkers to build stronger communities. To help fulfill our mission, we cultivate a culture of learning, leading, and collaboration to enhance community impact. Through our talented staff and “LEAP” career framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal Growth), we are committed to a people-first approach that fosters trust, inclusion, growth, and development for all. The Dodge YMCA is seeking a Foreign Language Spanish Instructor who will be responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum that supports and encourages the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of preschool students. The overall major functions of the Foreign Language Spanish Instructor also include: Provide a fun, safe, and positive experience for all participants. Demonstrate strong service and hospitality with all constituents, including, but not limited to, program participants and parents/guardians. Create an all-inclusive and supportive learning environment. Teach progressive lessons and provide opportunities to demonstrate learned skills. Embody the YMCA Core Values. Key Responsibilities: Supervise participants and all program activities. Follow all procedures and standards established by the law or the Y, make ADA accommodations where appropriate, and maintain the program site, equipment, and required program records. Nurture participants through purposeful programming and create lesson plans that are age-appropriate and focused on a learning goal. Create a positive rapport and build relationships with participants and their primary caregivers. Provide opportunities for hands-on learning experiences that primary caregivers can support or participate in with the participants. Build client relationships and possess strong customer service skills. Provide and welcome ongoing dialogue with parents/guardians and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress and connect families to the Y. Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and training. Perform other duties as assigned. Must enjoy working with children of varying ages. Willing to attend staff meetings and training sessions as appropriate. Comfortable with promoting classes and talking about registrations and program offerings. Host classes that engage young learners in fun, hands-on educational activities that adult caregivers can support. Classes can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours based on the age group. Prepare weekly lessons or activities in advance to be submitted to the Early Childhood Director. Desired Skills Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Previous experience working with children from birth and up required. Previous experience working with small groups or with multiple people within a customer service field is a plus. CPR and First Aid certifications preferred. Must be willing to take all training required by the YMCA.
