Provide exceptional care. Be the calm in recovery. Make a difference every shift.
At Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota (AERC), we know that healing doesn't end when surgery is over or the emergency is stabilized. Some of the most important moments happen during recovery—and that's where our Wards Technicians shine.
We're looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented Veterinary Technician or Assistant who enjoys building relationships with patients, monitoring their progress, and helping them transition safely from hospitalization back home.
If you love patient care, thrive in a collaborative environment, and want to make a meaningful impact without the constant pace of triage, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do
As an ER/ICU Wards Technician, you'll be responsible for the care and monitoring of hospitalized patients recovering from illness, surgery, and emergency treatment. Working alongside our emergency, critical care, and specialty teams, you'll help ensure every patient receives exceptional nursing care until discharge.
Responsibilities include:
Monitor hospitalized patients and recognize changes in condition
Perform treatments and procedures as directed by veterinarians
Administer medications and calculate CRIs and drug dosages accurately
Coordinate patient admissions, treatments, and discharges with specialty service
Maintain accurate medical records and treatment charges in the EMR
Keep treatment and wards areas clean, organized, and ready for the next patient
Partner with doctors and teammates to deliver outstanding patient and client care
Qualifications: What We're Looking For
One year of experience in clinical practice
Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT/LVT) or eligible for credentialing preferred but not required
Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program preferred
Strong technical and nursing skills
Excellent attention to detail and medical math abilities
Ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced hospital environment
Passion for patient advocacy and compassionate care
Bonus points for:
Emergency or Critical Care experience
Why AERC?
We're Minnesota's only locally owned emergency and specialty veterinary hospital, and our team is passionate about providing exceptional medicine while supporting one another.
You'll find:
Collaborative specialists and emergency clinicians
Opportunities for learning and professional growth
Advanced medicine and cutting-edge technology
A culture that values kindness, teamwork, and continuous improvement
Colleagues who genuinely enjoy working together (yes, even at 3 a.m.)
Schedule
Full-time position evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts available based on department needs.
