About the Opportunity The Food Service Specialist will be responsible for daily operations of the school meal service, supporting our scholars’ goals and the high-quality instruction provided at LEARN D.C. This role will ensure compliance with all related local, state, and federal laws regarding food service. Responsibilities As a Food Service Specialist, your critical tasks will include: Serving healthy meals to students and ensuring a hygienic and well-organized cafeteria. Meeting all local, state, and federal requirements for proper food handling, storage, disposal, and sanitation of the cafeteria. Assisting with the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). Planning and coordinating the menu in conjunction with the Operations Coordinator. Maintaining all necessary equipment and records, including point of service requirements as required by federal law Obtaining any mandatory training, including food service certification. Ensuring adherence to Healthy Schools Act requirements and to any applicable safety requirements. What You'll Need: Required Qualifications Education, Training and/or Experience This position is a great fit if: You have a Certified Food Handler License in the District of Columbia or can obtain a license quickly.  You have at least 1 year of food service experience (ideally 2+ preferred). You have a demonstrated track record of organizational skills and following strict food safety guidelines. You possess proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications, databases, and intranet and internet usage, and a working knowledge of nutritional guidelines.
