Core Responsibilities The primary responsibility of a Courtesy Clerk is to ensure customer satisfaction by promptly and accurately bagging customer purchases quickly, efficiently, and intact, while increasing customer loyalty through courteous, pleasant, and patient service. Bagging & Checkout Support: Bag items quickly and efficiently without forgetting or damaging goods following proper bagging procedures. Assist customers with unloading items from shopping carts onto check stand belts. Transport and load groceries into customer vehicles for those needing assistance. Customer & Register Assistance: Promptly and efficiently greet, thank, offer assistance to, and meet the needs of all customers with local warmth and hospitality. Replace, retrieve, or price-check items for Cashiers and customers. Refill and maintain bags and supplies at check stands. Cart & Store Maintenance: Retrieve shopping carts from parking and sidewalk areas, remove trash from carts, and maintain cart availability for shoppers. Perform and record regular floor sweeps as assigned, respond to "mess calls," and return unwanted or damaged items to proper store locations. Restock ice cases as needed. Sanitation & Housekeeping: Clean windows, front doors, Courtesy Counter glass, rugs, rubber mats at front entrance, and water fountains near the Pharmacy daily. Clean break room, restrooms, parking lot, and front-end areas daily. Empty and dispose of trash from check stands and offices daily. Working Conditions & Physical Demands Environment: Frequently perform most duties indoors in an air-conditioned building where it may be dusty, dirty, noisy, with high customer volume. Occasionally work outdoors where weather varies (hot, sunny, vog, etc.) to dispose of trash, sweep parking lots, retrieve shopping carts, and assist customers to vehicles. Seldom work around fumes and product/perfume odors. Physical Effort: Continuously stand, reach, handle, and use fine finger dexterity when bagging groceries. Frequently push, pull, lift, and carry up to 40 lbs when handling groceries. Frequently bend or crouch when retrieving items from under shopping carts, refilling supplies, or performing cleaning duties. Occasionally push/pull up to 100 lbs when retrieving shopping carts, assisting customers to vehicles, or moving display racks. Seldom climb ladders to retrieve merchandise, hang banners, or change light bulbs. Equipment Use & Safety Gear: Continuously wear a back support belt when performing job duties. Frequently use reusable, plastic, and paper bags, brooms, dustpans, mops, cleaning solutions, and shopping carts. Occasionally use pallet jacks, case cutters, stock wagons, and vacuum cleaners. Qualifications: What You Bring Age Restrictions: Must be at least 16 years of age to use a case cutter. Must be at least 18 years of age to operate a trash baler, freight elevator, or power-driven equipment. Skills & Knowledge: Basic math skills, effective oral and written communication skills, ability to multitask, and capability to work under minimal or no supervision. Education & Experience: No prior education or experience required. Work Habits: Friendly, cheerful, patient, detail-oriented, honest, and able to work well under pressure with frequent interruptions. Availability: Generally available for work 7 days a week and holidays between 7:00 am and 11:00 pm.
