We owe our century of existence entirely to the people of Hawai‘i Island. From our modest beginnings in a 500-square-foot store in 1916, KTA Super Stores and our associates remain deeply rooted in a single, quiet philosophy: to humbly serve the community that sustains us.
Core Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of a Bakery Counter Clerk is to ensure customer satisfaction by promptly and accurately filling customer orders from the bakery showcases and prep room, while providing courteous, pleasant, and patient service.
Order Preparation & Merchandising: Prepare, pan, and display Bakery products in showcases quickly and efficiently. Pack, label, and merchandise various Bakery products on display shelves, continuously refilling and maintaining product quantity and quality on the sales floor.
Special Services & Department Support: Write requested messages (e.g., "Happy Birthday", "Congratulations") on cakes per customer request. Fold boxes, reduce products reaching "sell-by" dates, break out products for the next day, stock/refill supplies, and retrieve products or customer orders from walk-in chillers and freezers.
Sales Support & Housekeeping: Engage in suggestive selling techniques and make PA announcements. Answer incoming phone calls, assist customer needs, sweep or pick up debris in the Bakery area, scrub floors, discard trash, clean work areas/showcases, and assist Bakers with product production as needed.
Customer & Team Engagement: Promptly and efficiently greet, thank, offer assistance to, and meet customer needs with local warmth and hospitality.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Environment: Continuously perform duties indoors in an air-conditioned building that may be dirty, dusty, and noisy with high customer volume. Frequently work in a prep room to prepare, pack, and label items. Occasionally exposed to cold conditions in walk-in chillers/freezers, hot conditions when ovens are operating or discarding trash outdoors, and wet conditions during floor cleaning.
Physical Effort: Continuously stand, walk, handle items, use fine dexterity, and corrected vision. Adapt to a faster pace during high demand. Frequently bend, squat, stoop, kneel, and reach to fill/retrieve items from showcases, shelves, and baking racks. Maintain good depth perception for using knives and bread slicers. Occasionally lift/carry up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 100 lbs when moving supplies. Seldom climb/balance to retrieve supplies.
Equipment Use & Regulations: Continuously wear a hair restraint, covered slip-resistant shoes, and an apron per Department of Health regulations. Frequently use bread slicers, stretch wrappers, bakery racks, single-burner stoves, pastry fillers, knives, tongs, spatulas, label machines, tape dispensers, case cutters, pricing guns, and telephones. Occasionally use electric mixers, microwaves, stock wagons, brooms, mops, squeegees, water hoses, and cleaning solutions.
Safety Equipment: Continuously wear a back support belt while performing job duties.
