Core Responsibilities The primary responsibility of a Deli Cook's Helper is to ensure customer satisfaction by safely preparing ingredients, marinades, and sauces used by Deli Cooks to produce consistent, eye-appealing, and quality meals in a timely manner. Food Preparation & Catering: Wash, clean, trim, cut, defrost, and marinate meats, poultry, seafood, fruits, and vegetables according to menu specifications. Prepare salads, marinades, sauces, garnishments, catering orders, and special customer requests. Cooking & Inventory Support: Assist Deli Cooks with preparing and cooking hot entrees. Rotate food products to ensure freshness, take inventory, place orders with vendors, and assist with receiving and putting away freight. Sanitation & Facility Maintenance: Filter/change deep fryer oil and properly discard dirty oil. Clean and sanitize all preparation and cooking areas, hood filters, pots, pans, cutting boards, utensils, and dirty equipment. Scrub/squeegee floors, remove ice build-up in freezers, and dispose of trash and cardboard boxes daily. Customer & Team Engagement: Promptly and efficiently greet, thank, offer assistance to, and meet the needs of all customers with local warmth and hospitality. Answer incoming phone calls and make PA announcements as needed. Working Conditions & Physical Demands Environment: Continuously perform duties indoors in an air-conditioned building that may be wet and noisy with high customer/co-worker volume. Frequently work in hot temperatures around grease when using stoves, ovens, and fryers. Occasionally work in cold walk-in chillers/freezers or outdoors in hot/humid weather to discard trash/cardboard. Seldom exposed to chemical cleaning fumes. Physical Effort: Continuously stand, walk, handle items, and maintain corrected vision. Adapt to working at a faster pace during busy production shifts. Frequently bend and reach to retrieve showcase items and supplies. Lift and carry up to 10 lbs when transporting prepared foods. Occasionally have good depth perception for using knives/slicers, lift/carry up to 70 lbs, and push/pull up to 700 lbs when receiving freight. Safety Equipment: Continuously wear a back support belt when performing all job duties. Equipment & Tools: Continuously use knives, cutting boards, meat slicers, steam cookers, rice cookers, pans, and bowls. Frequently use stoves, ovens, deep fryers, food processors, gas grills, woks, food thermometers, container sealers, and service carts. Occasionally use stock wagons and telephones. Qualifications: What You Bring Age Requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age to work in a walk-in freezer or chill box, and use a case cutter and knife. Must be at least 18 years of age to clean, maintain, or operate a stove, oven, bread slicer, or power-driven equipment. Skills & Knowledge: Basic math skills to calculate food quantities, prices, serving portions, and price quotes. Ability to multitask, follow chemical label instructions safely, and work under minimal or no supervision. Work Habits: Friendly, cheerful, and patient demeanor with a strong desire to serve customers and co-workers. Detail-oriented, honest, trustworthy, punctual, self-motivated, and committed to maintaining a clean and safe environment. Availability: Generally available to work 7 days a week including holidays, typically between 3:00 am and 10:30 pm.
