Core Responsibilities The primary responsibility of a Deli Cook is to ensure customer satisfaction by safely cooking and producing consistent, eye-appealing, quality meals in a timely manner, while increasing customer loyalty through courteous and pleasant service. Entree Preparation & Cooking: Prepare ingredients (trim, cut, and slice meats, poultry, seafood, and vegetables) and cook various hot entrees (seasoning, stir-frying, deep-frying, roasting) following specific recipes and menus. Showcase & Order Management: Monitor the hot showcase and continuously refill it with freshly prepared entrees. Prepare catering and special customer orders. Sanitation & Equipment Maintenance: Filter/change deep fryer oil and discard dirty oil properly. Clean and sanitize all preparation and cooking areas, hood filters, pots, pans, cutting boards, and utensils. Clean, scrub, and squeegee floors, remove freezer ice build-up, and dispose of trash and cardboard boxes daily. Department Support & Customer Engagement: Promptly and efficiently greet, thank, offer assistance to, and meet the needs of all customers. Answer phone calls, take inventory, place orders with vendors, and receive/put away freight as needed. Working Conditions & Physical Demands Environment: Continuously perform all duties indoors in an air-conditioned building with high customer/co-worker volume, working in a prep room that may be wet and noisy. Frequently work in hot temperatures around grease when operating stoves and ovens. Occasionally work in cold walk-in chillers/freezers or outdoors in wet/hot/humid weather to discard trash/cardboard. Seldom exposed to cleaning chemical fumes. Physical Effort: Continuously stand, walk, handle items, and maintain corrected vision. Adapt to a faster working pace when production is behind schedule. Frequently bend and reach to fill showcases and retrieve supplies; lift and carry up to 25 lbs when transporting prepared foods. Occasionally possess good depth perception for knives/slicers, lift/carry up to 70 lbs, and push/pull up to 700 lbs when receiving freight. Safety Equipment: Continuously wear a back support belt when performing all job duties. Equipment & Tools: Continuously use stoves, ovens, deep fryers, steam cookers, rice cookers, pots, pans, bowls, cutting boards, tongs, and cooking utensils. Frequently use knives, meat slicers, food processors, food thermometers, gas grills, woks, container sealers, and service carts. Occasionally use stock wagons and telephones. Qualifications: What You Bring Education & Experience: Education in culinary arts and previous cooking experience is preferred. Age Requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age to work in a walk-in freezer or chill box, and use a case cutter and knife. Must be at least 18 years of age to clean, maintain, or operate a stove, oven, bread slicer, or power-driven equipment. Skills & Knowledge: Basic math skills to calculate quantities, prices, serving portions, and quotes. Ability to multitask, follow recipes/chemical instructions safely, and work under minimal or no supervision. Work Habits: Friendly, cheerful, patient demeanor with a strong desire to serve customers, co-workers, and vendors. Detail-oriented, honest, trustworthy, punctual, self-motivated, and committed to maintaining a clean and safe environment. Availability: Generally available to work 7 days a week including holidays, typically between 3:00 am and 10:30 pm.
