Harrisburg University is searching for a full-time, in-person faculty member in Engineering & Math Sciences. Our ideal candidate is a student-centered STEM educator who will help guide the growth of our Engineering Sciences program, and who puts a strong emphasis on student wellbeing, career readiness, and workforce development. Our students are motivated, often come with uneven math preparation and non-linear paths, and need a leader who believes in their potential and meets them where they are without lowering expectations.
Key Responsibilities
• Teach undergraduate engineering sciences and/or applied math courses using inclusive, active-learning approaches that support students with varied preparation.
• Provide academic support for students in Engineering and Math Sciences, including scheduling, curriculum planning, and coordination with advising and student support.
• Develop and deliver new hands-on engineering electives, with a strong preference for:
• Analog and digital circuits
• Microcontrollers and Arduino-based applications
• Lab-rich, project-based courses that connect theory to practical electronic design
• Embed career readiness and workforce development into the curriculum through projects, professional skills, and collaboration with Career Services and industry partners.
• Advise and mentor students, helping them navigate non-linear pathways, build confidence in math and engineering, and translate experiences into transferable skills for internships and entry-level roles.
• Use data (retention, DFW rates, student feedback) to inform continuous improvement of courses, pathways, and supports.
Qualifications
• Graduate degree in Engineering (strong preference for Electrical or Electronic Engineering or closely related field).
• Experience teaching undergraduate engineering/ STEM students, ideally in settings with diverse and mixed academic preparation.
• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following:
• Curriculum and course development
• Lab and project-based learning with real hardware/tools
• Internships, co-ops, capstones, or other workforce-aligned experiences
• Commitment to inclusion, and access in STEM; experience supporting first-generation, women, students of color, and adult learners is highly valued.
• Strong communication, organization, and collaborative skills; ability to work closely with faculty, staff, and student support offices.
Preferred/Additional Strengths (Not Required)
• Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Engineering
• Experience in graduate program development and implementation.
• Background or experience in data science, data analytics, or computational methods, with interest in supporting students who pursue data-focused pathways.
• Project management experience or training, especially as applied to engineering projects, curriculum initiatives, or industry partnerships.
The ideal candidate is excited to build a hands-on, electronics-focused pathway within General Engineering Sciences, advocate for our students, and help them develop the skills and confidence to thrive in engineering, data-informed, and other technical careers. The position is intended to be fully on-site in Harrisburg. Salary commensurate with experience and credentials.
