The role supports the Sous or Executive Chef in maintaining high quality of food and safety standards. Essential Job Responsibilities • Prepare and cook a variety of meals for residents with attention to quality and presentation. • Alter or adapt recipes to accommodate special dining needs of residents or to improve recipes. • Ensure attractive presentation of food on the plate before serving. • Identify food and supplies needed for the next week’s menus and report to the supervisor. • Participate in new menu and special menu planning. • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and kitchen/storage areas. • Ensure proper handling, labeling and storage of food for infection control. • Prepare meats for storage and portion control upon delivery. Ensure proper storage of all delivered foods and ingredients. • Assist with dishwashing and kitchen sanitation, as needed. • Notify manager of food supply needs and malfunctioning equipment or appliances. • Assist in the recording of Ready – to – Use – food items into the TELS website. Three items should be recorded for every meal. • Record cooler, freezer and dish machine temperatures in the TELS website. • Report any on-the-job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs. • Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, community operations and personnel. • Other duties as assigned. Education, Experience, and Other Requirements • Must be at least 18 years of age • 2+ years of cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant setting Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required • Strong knowledge of food safety and dietary guidelines • State food-handling and kitchen regulations • Promote teamwork in providing services to residents. • Operation of kitchen appliances (dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, mixer, etc.) • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs. Preferred Qualifications • ServeSafe or equivalent certification is preferred • Willingness to learn and help others • Enjoyment in working with older adults #IND
