As part of our growing Detroit team, you will have the opportunity to work on high-impact projects, expand your technical and leadership skills, and contribute to a culture where your ideas and growth are valued. Please note that this position is a hybrid role, with three days per week required in our downtown Detroit office. What can you expect? As a Functional Safety Consultant, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety and compliance of complex systems within the automotive and technology industries, guiding clients through functional safety activities from concept to production. • Lead and manage functional safety activities in accordance with ISO 26262 and other applicable safety standards, such as IEC 61508. • Independently conduct and review safety analyses, including HARA, FMEA, FTA, and FMEDA. • Develop and maintain functional and technical safety concepts, safety requirements, and safety cases throughout the product development lifecycle. • Define and implement functional safety plans, verification strategies, and safety-related development processes. • Support the integration of safety requirements into system, hardware, and software development, ensuring alignment with industry standards. • Act as a key technical contact for clients, leading safety-related discussions, workshops, and technical reviews. • Identify potential safety risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and ensure the quality and completeness of safety deliverables. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and project managers to ensure successful project execution. • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and consultants. • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives through INVENSITY's Academy and technical communities. Your profile • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (Master's degree preferred). • 5–7 years of professional experience in functional safety engineering, preferably within the automotive industry or other safety-critical environments. • Strong practical knowledge of ISO 26262, including its application across the product development lifecycle. • Proven hands-on experience conducting safety analyses such as HARA, FMEA, FTA, and/or FMEDA. • Experience developing functional and technical safety concepts, safety requirements, and safety documentation. • Solid understanding of systems engineering processes, the V-model, and hardware/software development lifecycles. • Experience working with safety-related development tools and requirements management systems such as DOORS, Jama, or equivalent solutions. • Familiarity with IEC 61508 or other industry-specific functional safety standards is a plus. • Demonstrated ability to independently manage functional safety work packages and coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders. • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a structured and quality-oriented approach. • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with confidence engaging directly with clients and technical stakeholders. • Experience providing technical guidance or mentoring junior engineers is an advantage. • Proactive, collaborative mindset with a strong sense of ownership and commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions. What are your benefits? • Hybrid Model: Flexible hybrid work schedule with 2 remote days per week. • Paid Time Off: Includes vacation, personal/sick days, parental leave, and company holidays. • Retirement Plans: Access to company-sponsored retirement plan options. • Health Benefits: Eligibility for medical, dental, and vision coverage. • Income Protection: Company-sponsored short-term disability insurance. • Compensation Incentives: Opportunity to earn goal-based bonuses after six months of employment. • Professional Development: INVENSITY Academy trainings, certification reimbursement opportunities, and continuous career development. • Collaborative Work Environment: Be part of a growing Detroit office that values technical excellence, knowledge sharing, professional growth, and a supportive team culture.
