The Surgical Technologist has an understanding of the procedure being performed, anticipates the needs of the surgeon, maintains a sterile field and is responsible pre- and post-operatively for technical components of surgery. Essential Job Functions • Anticipates, plans for and responds to the needs of the surgeon and other members of the team by constantly monitoring the sterile field. • Demonstrates proper handling of instruments and equipment. • Identifies potential intraoperative complications and responds appropriately to identified needs. • Assists team in maintaining adequate inventory of equipment, supplies and instruments. • Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality of patient care. • Identifies needs and sets goals for own personal growth and development. Meets all system and departmental educational requirements. • Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.
