Full description

The Excess and Surplus Lines unit is looking for an Actuarial Associate to contribute property pricing knowledge and experience to Verisk’s product suite supporting non-admitted/E&S property lines of business. The Actuarial Associate will join our growing actuarial team and be responsible for supporting the development of innovative actuarial product solutions to help the industry better price and manage non-admitted risks in the property market. In this role, you will bring your technical expertise and industry experience to bear on some of the most challenging, unconventional, and complex risks and problems in the property market. Working in a space of ambiguity and uncertainty, you will be able to apply your actuarial creativity in a fast-moving segment not subject to standard rate and form requirements and build solutions for a rapidly evolving industry segment with significant growth potential. Your work will have a direct impact on Verisk’s strategic vision to provide data-driven analytical solutions to the E&S industry. This position is hybrid from the Jersey City, NJ office or remote from elsewhere in the Eastern time zone. We are open to Central or Mountain time zones for the right candidate. • Develop creative actuarial solutions for complex risks and problems that don’t fit the traditional admitted market framework. • Navigate and synthesize disparate data sources of varying granularity and complexity typical of the E&S property space. • Provide actuarial expertise to support the buildout of data intake processes for contributory E&S premium, loss, and exposure property data for both commercial and personal lines, and translate data into actionable actuarial and underwriting insights and analytics. • Analyze contributory, proprietary, and other third-party data to support the development of property analytics and pricing solutions for E&S customers. • Solve technical client problems with minimal guidance, including working directly with client data and actuarial teams. • Collaborate with Verisk E&S team colleagues and other Verisk cross-functional teams to deliver solutions to customers. Liaise closely with other business units and experts across Verisk, including data operations, analytics, and commercial and personal lines actuarial. • Own workstreams end-to-end, from problem definition and data discovery through analysis, stakeholder alignment, implementation support, and delivery of client solutions. • Proactively identify roadblocks, drive next steps, and move ambiguous or undefined processes toward scalable, repeatable solutions. • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a related major. • At least 4 – 6 years of actuarial experience with a focus on property (commercial and/or personal) pricing required. E&S property pricing experience would be a plus. • Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) required. • Proficiency in actuarial software and tools (e.g., SAS, R, Python, and Excel). Proficiency in SQL required. • High degree of agency and ownership; demonstrated ability to operate independently, drive projects forward with limited oversight, and take accountability for outcomes across the full lifecycle of a process or product build. • Data management skills or knowledge of insurance data management and databases required. Familiarity with Snowflake and DBT is a plus. • Experience with generative AI tools in a production environment would be a plus. Familiarity with CAT models such as AIR and/or RMS would be a plus. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under uncertainty and ambiguity. Experience working with complex and diverse datasets and non-standardized processes. • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to convey technical actuarial concepts to non-actuarial or technical stakeholders. • Comfort working simultaneously with multiple external client teams and internal stakeholders to advance actuarial solutions to their unique technical problems. • Reserving experience and predictive modeling experience are a plus. #LI-MC1
