Job Role & Responsibilities
Role:
• Support end‑to‑end design, detailing, and validation of mechanical transmission components.
• Perform calculations related to:
• Gear ratios & gear train layout
• Gear macro & micro geometry
• Shaft and bearing sizing
• Clutch torque capacity and wear analysis
• Chain tension, sprocket geometry, and drive efficiency
• Develop and optimize clutch systems, including friction plate design, actuation mechanism, pressure plate geometry, and durability evaluation.
• Design and refine gear shifting mechanisms (shift forks, selector drum, shift shaft, detent mechanism).
• Design and validate drive chain and sprocket systems, including link selection, pitch, sprocket tooth profile, alignment, wear patterns, and noise/efficiency considerations.
• Review CAE, CFD, NVH, and durability analysis results and provide design improvement inputs.
• Support component and system‑level testing: gearbox endurance, clutch testing, chain–sprocket fatigue, and shifting mechanism reliability tests.
• Participate in root‑cause analysis for issues related to gears, clutches, chain drives, and shifting systems.
• Coordinate with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure DFM/DFA/DFS compliance, material selection, and process feasibility.
• Support prototype builds, validation activities, and engineering documentation including DFMEA, DRBFM, test reports, and drawing releases.
Technical/ Functional:
• Strong understanding of automotive drivetrain and mechanical transmission fundamentals.
• Proficiency in Romax and familiarity with simulation tools like Kisssoft, ADAMS, ANSYS.
• Hands-on experience in designing:
• Gears, shafts, bearings
• Clutch systems (friction plates, hub, pressure plate, actuation)
• Gear shifting mechanisms (selector drum, shift forks, shift shaft, detent systems)
• Drive chain and sprocket systems (pitch selection, sprocket design, lubrication flow, chain tensioning)
• Differentials, driveshafts, and associated components
• Knowledge of drivetrain calculations including tractive effort, gear sizing, chain drive efficiency, and sprocket load distribution.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes: forging, machining, hobbing, shaping, honing, grinding, spline rolling, heat treatment, etc.
• Familiarity with gear quality standards and material selection.
• Exposure to NVH, durability testing, and validation result interpretation for transmission, clutch, and chain systems.
• Knowledge of AMT fundamentals is an added advantage.
