Full description
The Naval Air Traffic Control (ATC) Equipment Specialist and Lab Manager is responsible for the technical execution, maintenance, configuration management, and operational readiness of critical naval ATC systems within a specialized laboratory environment. This role combines hands-on engineering/technician expertise with laboratory supervision to support the testing, evaluation, and lifecycle management of shipboard and shore-based naval aviation systems.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Technical Execution
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on complex naval ATC systems, including primary/secondary radar, identification friend or foe (IFF) systems, meteorological equipment, and voice/data communications suites.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair hardware, software, and network interfaces down to the component or line-replaceable unit (LRU) level.
• Calibrate and align electronic equipment using specialized test gear (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators) to meet rigid military standards and tolerances.
Lab Operations & Management
• Supervise the daily operations of the ATC development, testing, and integration laboratories.
• Enforce strict safety procedures, including Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) controls, Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) handling, and high-voltage safety protocols.
• Maintain configuration control of laboratory testbeds, ensuring hardware and software baselines accurately mirror fleet installations (e.g., CVN, LHD/LHA, or NAS configurations).
• Manage tool control programs, test equipment calibration cycles, and inventory levels for spare parts and consumables.
Test Support & Engineering Collaboration
• Assist engineering teams in setting up test scenarios, data collection, and executing formal Test and Evaluation (T&E) plans.
• Isolate and document system anomalies, software bugs, and hardware deficiencies, providing detailed technical feedback to systems engineers and program managers.
• Install and validate system upgrades, Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), and software patches prior to fleet deployment.
