The Role As part of Stratus' partnership with Stewart Engineering, we are seeking an experienced Roadway Project Manager to lead the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for managing and producing high-quality roadway designs across a diverse portfolio of projects, ranging from local improvements to complex transportation systems. The Roadway Project Manager will lead technical roadway design efforts for projects including major and minor arterials, limited-access highways, bridge replacement approaches, at-grade intersections, interchanges, and rail crossings. This individual will oversee project execution, provide mentorship and direction to roadway engineers and designers, ensure quality and schedule adherence, and serve as a primary point of contact for clients and project stakeholders. Responsibilities • Responsible for preparation and completion of roadway, traffic management, pavement marking and signing designs that are responsive to project needs including the production of plans, quantities, cost estimates, construction administration and final specifications • Development of project workload and complete initial review of engineering drawings and specifications • Conduct field observations and data collection activities • Coordinate preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas • Coordinate design development and/or assist in providing technical direction to the scope of projects; provide senior-level technical expertise on projects associated with conceptual engineering, detailed engineering designs, and preparation of contracts for construction • Development of project design criteria, design calculations, construction details, quantities and cost estimates • Analyze technical problems, assessing the feasibility of proposed techniques and procedures, and devising new approaches and alternative solutions • Coordinate work with Manager, Transportation Design and guide professional and technical personnel on the design and drafting of all project phases • Maintain quality standards in all work produced, and check computations and/or review designs performed by others • Manage projects by coordinating with the client, directing the design process, coordinating the design team, which may include other disciplines • Review and checking of engineering work completed by others • Assist in coordinating with clients on project budgets, provide leadership in project planning and strategy, project management, project implementation, and ensuring quality of work products Qualifications Required • 8 years of experience with roadway design • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required Preferred • Experience working with NCDOT preferred • Experience in MicroStation, Geopak, and Corridor Modelling • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment Why you’ll love Stratus • A team-oriented environment that values transparency, creativity, and shared success • Meaningful career paths, leadership opportunities, and space to specialize • Learning & Development – Education and Professional Licensing • We believe flexible, hybrid work supports the balance and well-being our team deserves • Excellent Health Care Programs – Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance • Company-paid Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability • Voluntary Life Insurance options for employees, spouses, and dependents • 401k Retirement Plan with employer match • Paid Holidays & Competitive PTO plans Interested in learning more about Stratus, please visit https://www.stratusteam.com/.
