Description The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct and indirect patient care to adult and geriatric patients requiring intermediate-level care and continuous cardiac monitoring. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating patient care while promoting patient safety, quality outcomes, and positive patient experience. The IMCU/Medical Telemetry RN cares for patients with complex medical conditions who require a higher level of monitoring than a traditional medical-surgical unit but do not require intensive care services. This RN will be responsible for a mix of traditional medical-surgical patients and intermediate care patients. Essential Functions: Provides professional nursing care for patients on assigned nursing units, in accordance with established statutes, standards and practices. • Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care. • Utilizes all resources in the initial assessment of patient needs, including biophysical, psychosocial, cultural, environmental, discharge planning, self-care, and education. • Performs a reassessment each shift, upon transfer or discharge, and more frequently as necessary. • Practices universal precautions, infection control, and isolation procedures. Maintains accurate and concise documentation of patient status, nursing interventions, and patient responses. • Participates in discharge planning; upon discharge ensures that a written teaching/discharge plan has been developed for assigned patients, including disease processes, complications, medications, diet, physical activity, and self-care needs. • Demonstrates an understanding of the role of all health care providers to appropriately meet the needs of the patient. • Demonstrates the ability to make effective nursing judgements in routine and emergency situations. • Other roles and responsibilities as assigned. Core Competencies: The IMCU/Medical Telemetry RN must demonstrate: Strong clinical assessment skills • Critical thinking and clinical judgment • Telemetry rhythm interpretation • Time management and prioritization • Effective communication • Conflict resolution skills • Customer service excellence • Ability to respond appropriately during emergencies • Commitment to patient safety and quality outcomes • Titration of select Cardiac drips Requirements • Current Illinois RN license registration. • Basic Life Support (BLS) required. • Current CPR. • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required within designated timeframe. • NIH Stroke Scale Certification preferred. • Medical-Surgical nursing experience preferred. • Good knowledge of the Nursing Process and strong nursing practice skills, including physical assessment skills. • Telemetry or Intermediate Care experience preferred. • Performs other duties as assigned.
