Job Details: Job Location: Oklahoma City Office - Oklahoma City, OK, Salary Range: Undisclosed, Job Summary
The Development Geologist owns the geologic framework behind Flywheel's Eagle Ford development program in South Texas (Gonzales, Lavaca, Fayette and DeWitt counties). Responsible growth starts underground. This role decides where our development capital goes (well locations, landing zones, spacing and development sequence) so that each well recovers the most capitally efficient resource. You will then check every result against the prediction to sharpen the next decision. You will work inside the Eagle Ford asset team alongside reservoir engineering, drilling, completions, operations geology and reserves. It is a mid-career, hands-on role for a geologist who wants their maps and insights to become the drilling schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Development Planning & Inventory
Own structure, isopach, and reservoir-property maps for the Lower and Upper Eagle Ford (and Austin Chalk where relevant) across the asset
Define landing zones, target windows, and stacking/spacing concepts with reservoir engineering; quantify geologic risk by location
Maintain and high-grade the drilling inventory; support pad selection, sequencing, and the multi-rig development schedule
Provide geologic inputs to type curves, reserves bookings, and the annual plan
Post-Drill & Performance Lookbacks
Compare results against prognosis and forecast (zone placement, lateral quality, early production) and explain the variance
Identify geologic drivers of well performance (thickness, rock quality, clay, pressure, parent–child depletion) and feed them back into targeting and frac design
Support refrac, workover, and infill candidate screening with geologic and depletion context
Integration & Data
Integrate logs, petrophysics, core, 3D seismic, geomechanics, and production data into consistent asset models and grids
Keep geologic data and interpretations current, documented, and accessible to the asset team
Pair geologic interpretation with the asset team's data-driven tools (well-performance models, type curves, depletion and spacing analytics) to test which geologic drivers move results
Contribute to acquisition, trade, and partner-well evaluations as needed
Team of Teams
Act as the geologic point of contact for the Eagle Ford development program
Connect the Eagle Ford asset team with Subsurface Innovation, operations geology, completions, reserves, and land, so information moves between teams as freely as it does within one
Communicate clearly to technical peers and leadership; present recommendations at well reviews and planning meetings
Qualifications: Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geoscience
5+ years of upstream oil & gas experience with a primary focus on unconventional (horizontal shale) development
Demonstrated subsurface mapping, well planning, and development-targeting experience
Proficiency with industry-standard geologic interpretation and mapping software (e.g. Petra, Kingdom, Petrel, ArcGIS)
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Geology or Geoscience
Eagle Ford / Austin Chalk or analogous Gulf Coast unconventional experience
Experience with spacing, parent–child, and well-performance analysis in partnership with reservoir engineering
Working knowledge of petrophysics, seismic interpretation, and geomechanics
Working data skills: Python or SQL, plus Spotfire or Power BI, on large well and production datasets
Experiences integrating workflows with new technologies (AI)
Geosteering familiarity (e.g. StarSteer)
