Job Title Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical Location Fort Wayne, IN | Acute Care Schedule / Job Type Contract | Nights | 12-hour shifts | 3 weekend shifts per 4-week period | Onsite Key Responsibilities • Provide general medical-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population with diagnoses including COPD, CHF, diabetes, end-stage renal disease, GI disorders, infections, neurological conditions, and mental health disorders • Perform patient assessments, develop care plans, and maintain thorough documentation using Epic EHR • Manage IV therapy, heparin and insulin drips, wound vacs, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and feeding pumps • Operate unit equipment including Hospira IV pumps, Pyxis machines, AccuCheck glucose monitors, telemetry monitoring, and SCDs for VTE prevention • Collaborate through inter-professional communication and support patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and minor surgeries • Float to other medical units as needed; expected patient ratio of 1:5–6 Required Qualifications • Active Indiana RN license or compact RN license (compact eligibility as of 7/1/2020) required • BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required • Minimum 1.5 years of experience in a Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care setting • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical experience at a large hospital (450+ beds) • Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates Preferred Experience / Skills • Proficiency with Epic electronic health records • Experience managing complex drip medications (heparin, insulin) and advanced wound care devices • Familiarity with telemetry monitoring in a medical-surgical environment Why Join Us • Work within a large, high-acuity facility offering exposure to a broad and diverse patient population across a wide range of diagnoses and procedures • Structured onboarding through a Jump Start orientation program that includes general hospital orientation, nursing-specific training, and Epic classes to set you up for success
