Job Title Registered Nurse – Emergency Department Holding Unit Location Charleston, WV | Acute Care / Level IV Trauma Center Schedule / Job Type Contract | Nights | 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | Weekdays with every other weekend required | Float coverage to ED as needed Key Responsibilities • Provide direct patient care in an ED Holding Unit setting with a 5:1 patient ratio, serving an adult and geriatric population • Perform IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including accessing ports, blood product administration, peripheral line care and management, and starting IVs • Administer and manage medications including Heparin protocols and cardiac drips (no titration) • Monitor and care for patients with neurological and psychiatric conditions including CVA, seizure disorders, and substance withdrawal • Manage respiratory support modalities including external CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), oxygen face masks, and non-invasive airway management • Document all patient care accurately using CERNER electronic health records (CERNER experience required) Required Qualifications • Active WV or Compact RN License (pending license accepted for submission; active license must be in hand prior to start) • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; minimum 1 year of in-specialty (ED or ED Holding) experience required • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required — must be through the American Heart Association (AHA) • CPI certification required (must be scheduled and obtained more than 1 week prior to start date) • Proficiency with CERNER charting system required • Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); medical exemption with documented allergist or physician record accepted • Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; candidates between 75–100 miles may be considered on a case-by-case basis Preferred Experience / Skills • Med/Surg, Telemetry, and ER Holding Unit experience preferred • Experience with care of ventilated patients and tracheostomy management preferred • First-time travelers with appropriate specialty experience will be considered Why Join Us • Work at a large, short-term acute care teaching hospital with 838 staffed beds, offering a dynamic and high-acuity clinical environment • Expected 36 or 48 hours per week based on RN preference, with overtime potentially available after 48 hours for those on a 4x12 schedule; free parking available for travelers
