Job Title Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical Location Fort Wayne, IN | Acute Care Schedule / Job Type Contract | Days | 12-hour shifts | 3 weekend shifts per 4-week period | Onsite Key Responsibilities • Provide general medical-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population with diagnoses including COPD, diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease, GI disorders, infections, neurological conditions, and mental health disorders • Perform patient assessments, develop care plans, and communicate effectively within an inter-professional team • Manage clinical equipment and therapies including IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding tubes, chest tubes, heparin and insulin drips, and telemetry monitoring • Utilize Epic electronic health record, Pyxis medication dispensing systems, and Accucheck blood glucose monitoring • Support patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and minor surgeries • Float to other medical units as needed; maintain patient ratios of 1:5–6 Required Qualifications • Active Indiana RN license or compact RN license required • BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required • Minimum 1.5 years of experience in a Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care setting • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical experience at a large hospital (450+ beds) • Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates; candidates within 50 miles are welcome to apply and may be considered at an adjusted rate Preferred Experience / Skills • Proficiency with Epic electronic health records • Experience managing complex drip therapies including heparin and insulin infusions • Familiarity with wound vac management, chest tube care, and enteral feeding systems • Experience caring for patients with mental health comorbidities including substance abuse and mood disorders Why Join Us • Opportunity to work in a high-acuity, large-volume acute care environment with a clinically diverse patient population across a wide range of medical and surgical diagnoses • Structured onboarding program including general hospital orientation, nursing-specific orientation days, and Epic training to support a smooth transition into the role
