Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Information The Oncology Unit is designed to provide specialized care to patients undergoing treatment for cancer. Below are the key details: • Number of Beds: 21 (current census: 8-12) • Staffing: • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 3-4 RNs, 1 PCT • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 3-4 RNs, 1 PCT • Patient Ratios: Estimated 1:3-4, flex to 5 • Type of Equipment: Baxter pumps • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech Qualifications The ideal candidate should meet the following qualifications: • Required: Oncology background • Preferred: • Hemonc background • Chemotherapy certification Typical Procedures Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: • Replacing blood and electrolytes Best Personality Fit The suitable candidate should possess a compassionate demeanor, demonstrating empathy and understanding towards patients and their families. Required Certifications • Registered Nurse (RN) • Basic Life Support (BLS) Floating Areas The nurse may be required to float to the following areas: • Hematology/Oncology • Bone Marrow Transplant Dress Code Staff is required to wear royal blue scrubs while on duty. Unit Guidelines/Policies The unit follows specific guidelines and policies, including: • Neutropenic precautions • Strict intake and output monitoring • CHG baths and linen changes every 24 hours • Dressing changes every 7 days • Line and cap changes every 96 hours • No children under 16 allowed Work Schedule The position includes rotating weekends, with no additional on-call requirements. Experience A minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field is required.
