Med Surg / Ortho Registered Nurse (RN) Location City: not specified, State: not specified Unit Information • Unit Type: Medical Surgical • Number of Beds: 22 • Average Daily Census: 6 • Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:5-6 • Common Diagnoses: Total knee replacements, total hip replacements, ankle replacements, total shoulders, spinal surgeries (back and neck) Shift Information • Shift Schedule: Nights • Shift Timing: 1830-0630 • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend • Holiday Requirement: Rotate with permanent staff Responsibilities • Participate in 24/7 phlebotomy services • Conduct patient assessments and plan care accordingly • Administer medications and monitor patient responses • Collaborate with healthcare team members to provide quality patient care • Engage in patient education and support Training and Orientation • One day of unit-specific orientation is required. • Completion of an open book skills examination during Friday orientation; a score of 90% is required for passing. Additional Information • Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care departments. Non-compliance may result in contract termination. • Nurse aids/patient care technicians are available with a ratio of 1:13. • Tele/monitor technicians are present, allowing registered nurses to focus on patient care rather than interpreting telemetry data. • Attributes for success in this unit include teamwork, flexibility, ownership of responsibilities, and a willingness to learn. Floating Requirements Registered nurses may be required to float to MedSurg, rehabilitation, or PCU, taking on MedSurg acuity. RTO Requirements Predictable time off (RTO) requests should be submitted upfront, with a limit of 7 or fewer days for the duration of a 13-week contract. Additional RTO may not be approved.
