BATTERY COUNCIL INTERNATIONAL batterycouncil.org Technical Standards Manager Full-time · Remote based out of Pittsburgh, PA or Washington, DC metro areas (United States) · Reports to the Director of Technical Programs · Occasional travel (~14 days/year) Salary range: $70,000–$85,000, plus bonus and benefits About BCI Battery Council International is the century-old trade association for the North American battery industry. We set the technical standards, publish the industry’s data, and lead the advocacy and sustainability work that keep batteries safe, recyclable, and central to the energy transition. We are a small, fully remote team, and we are adding a second professional to our technical group as the program grows. The role This is a strong early-career role for someone organized, technically trained, and good with people. You will be the staff engine behind BCI’s technical committees and its technical publications - the industry’s shipment and recycling-rate reports, our standards ballots, and technical studies such as the Failure Mode Study - working closely with the Director of Technical Programs and with member volunteers across the industry. What you’ll do • Staff the committees - schedule meetings, prepare agendas, and draft and distribute minutes for BCI’s technical committees (Automotive Battery, Industrial Battery, Deep Cycle & EV Charger, Product Information, and others as they form), and serve as the day-to-day liaison for member questions. • Produce the publications - manage the shipment reports and the Recycling Rate Study with our data vendor, support technical reports and white papers, and serve as the technical resource for the BCI Data Book. • Run the standards ballots - administer BCI Standard (BCIS) ballots, from drafting and distribution through tallying, and update the published standards and product listings after each cycle. • Support events and travel - represent BCI at Committee Week, the FBNA Conference, Board meetings, and the Annual Convention, and support speaker management and deliverable tracking. • Keep the program moving - process subscription orders, handle invoicing, and contribute to the team’s weekly coordination. What you bring • A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent technical experience. • One to three years of experience in association management, committee or board staffing, or member-program coordination. Internships and co-ops count. • Strong organization and meeting-facilitation skills, and comfort staffing several committees with distinct member groups at once. • Clear, professional writing for minutes, member correspondence, and publications. • Preference will be given to applicants in the Pittsburgh and Washington, DC metro area. Nice to have • Exposure to consensus standards development (ANSI, IEC, ISO) or to regulatory and compliance programs. • Vendor-management experience with printers or data and consulting partners. What we offer • Competitive pay in the range above, plus an annual bonus. • A 5% 401(k) match and medical, dental, and vision coverage. • Paid time off and a fully remote schedule, with travel roughly fourteen days a year, concentrated around the fall committee season and the spring Convention. • A visible role on a lean team, working directly with the Director of Technical Programs and with technical leaders across the industry. How to apply Submit a resume and a brief cover letter describing your interest and relevant experience. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and the position is open until filled. Equal opportunity BCI is an equal-opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic. We are committed to an inclusive hiring process and will provide reasonable accommodation to applicants with disabilities on request at any stage. Battery Council International · batterycouncil.org · The salary range reflects the band for this role; the actual offer depends on experience and work location under BCI’s geographic pay framework.
