ABOUT SALEM GASTRO Salem Gastroenterology is an independent, physician-owned leader in digestive health serving Oregon's Willamette Valley. For more than 30 years, our physicians have guided every decision, upheld the highest standards of care, and remained accountable first and foremost to the patients and communities we serve. With more than 100 dedicated team members supporting its physicians, advanced practice providers, and operations across two Salem Gastroenterology and Hepatology outpatient clinic sites, Salem Endoscopy Center, and affiliated specialty and therapeutic endoscopy services at Salem Hospital, Salem Gastroenterology serves as the region's only comprehensive gastroenterology practice. As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, Salem Gastro is committed to preserving the independence that allows its physicians to make decisions in the best interests of their patients and community. With an established clinical foundation and opportunities to expand access and services, the practice is seeking a CEO who can strengthen its business and operational performance while positioning the organization for long-term success. MISSION OF THE ROLE The Chief Executive Officer will lead Salem Gastro into its next chapter, partnering with the physician Board to establish a clear strategic direction, strengthen organizational and financial performance, and position the practice for continued independence and growth. This is an opportunity for an accomplished healthcare executive to shape the future of an established physician-owned organization while preserving its commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care. Working closely with the physician partners, the CEO will bring thoughtful analysis, sound business judgment, and disciplined execution to the decisions that shape the practice's future. The CEO will lead the management team, grow organizational capabilities, and ensure the practice has the people, systems, and resources needed to meet evolving patient and community needs. A central priority will be balancing the financial and operational demands of a successful medical practice with the clinical priorities and professional autonomy of its physicians. As the organization's senior executive, the CEO will play a visible role in building relationships with healthcare partners, payers, referring providers, and the broader community. Throughout this work, the CEO will align business strategy and organizational resources with the practice's commitment to high-quality patient care. ACCOUNTABILITIES AND OUTCOMES Strategic Direction & Growth • Partner with the physician Board to establish and align around a clear strategic direction that supports Salem Gastro's long-term independence and success. • Evaluate opportunities for growth, new services, and physician recruitment, bringing sound analysis and recommendations to guide investment and expansion. • Anticipate changes in the healthcare environment and position the practice to respond to emerging opportunities and challenges. • Serve as a strategic advisor to the physician Board, bringing timely and transparent communication, objective analysis, sound recommendations, and a balanced perspective to business decisions. • Translate Board direction into clear organizational priorities, shared accountability, and measurable plans, ensuring alignment between clinical priorities and organizational strategy. Financial Leadership & Operational Performance • Own financial performance and reporting across Salem Gastro’s businesses, ensuring reliable information for the physician Board, sound financial and capital planning, and responsible stewardship of the practice’s resources and facilities. • Strengthen revenue cycle performance, payer contracting, and cost management to support long-term financial sustainability. • Guide the practice’s technology direction, making well-judged investments that improve patient access, support physicians and staff, and keep Salem Gastro current as care delivery evolves. • Improve operational efficiency, patient access, and capacity utilization across the clinic and Salem Endoscopy, supporting high-quality care and a strong patient experience. Organizational Leadership • Lead the management team, establishing clear expectations and empowering them to translate priorities into results. • Foster a positive, collaborative workplace that values experienced staff, supports employee development, and strengthens retention. • Guide organizational change thoughtfully, engaging physicians and staff while ensuring improvements are effectively implemented and sustained. • Cultivate productive relationships with Salem Hospital and other regional health systems, referring providers, and community partners, advancing the practice’s mission and its continued success in the communities it serves. Requirements CRITICAL EXPERIENCE & LEADERSHIP CAPABILITIES Essential Qualifications • Significant executive or senior leadership experience in physician practice management, ambulatory care, or a comparable healthcare setting, with demonstrated understanding of clinical operations, physician practice economics, and the dynamics of physician-owned organizations. • Direct ownership of financial performance and reporting in a healthcare organization, including budgeting, revenue cycle, payer contracting, and capital planning, with responsibility for presenting results to a board or ownership group. • Experience partnering effectively with physicians and clinical leaders to establish priorities, navigate complex decisions, and achieve organizational goals. • Proven ability to strengthen organizational performance and implement change. • Strong strategic and analytical capabilities, with demonstrated success evaluating opportunities and translating decisions into results. • A leadership approach characterized by sound judgment, integrity, clear communication, and the ability to navigate differing perspectives. • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, finance, or a related field. Strongly Preferred Experience • Experience with physician recruitment, practice expansion, or development of new clinical services. • Experience leading multiple related healthcare entities, such as a practice with an affiliated ambulatory surgery center. • MBA, MHA, or related graduate degree.
