Full description

Program Assistant, China AI Initiative The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a renowned international affairs institution, seeks a full-time Program Assistant for its Washington, D.C.-based China AI Initiative. This is a 12-month position with the possibility of extension. The China AI Initiative seeks to inform and support the U.S.-China relationship in AI. Drawing on Chinese-language sources, fieldwork, and data, we combine deep knowledge of China's AI ecosystem with an understanding of the technology and the way that other critical regions are engaging with it. Responsibilities for this role include coordinating travel, preparing expense reports, maintaining and updating the Initiative's database, handling web postings, coordinating meetings and supporting event logistics, and assisting with the preparation of grant reports, budgets, and financial reviews. This is an excellent entry-level role with substantial opportunity to work closely with senior scholars, gain exposure to the China AI field, and engage with the international policy community. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree as well as experience in providing logistical, budgetary, and/or event support. The ideal candidate also has demonstrated teamwork skills, the ability to balance multiple competing tasks successfully, strong attention to detail, and be ready to thrive with limited day-to-day supervision. AI usage skills are a strong plus. We welcome applicants with knowledge of AI policy, foreign policy, China, or think tanks, though such knowledge is not required. Located in Dupont Circle, we offer an outstanding work environment and generous benefits, including health insurance. The anticipated salary range for this D.C.-based position is $50,000 - $52,000. Please note that this position will operate on a hybrid basis, requiring in-office work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Please apply via the Carnegie Endowment website by providing a copy of your resume/CV and a cover letter in your own words outlining your interest and experience relating to this position. Please Note: This position is included in the staff bargaining unit, Carnegie Endowment Workers Alliance (CEWA), affiliated with the IFPTE Local 70 union. Equal Employment Opportunity.
