Start date: Rolling enrollment — the next cohort date is shared at your intake appointment Location: Kansas City metro (Jackson, Clay, Platte, Cass, Johnson, Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties) Type: Pre-apprenticeship training program (not a job with SWD) About the program Build It KC is Strategic Workforce Development's pre-apprenticeship program for people who want a career in the construction trades. In about four weeks, you'll get hands-on training, industry certifications, and a direct path to union apprenticeships and contractor jobs that pay livable wages. AI literacy is built into every cohort, so you leave job-ready for today's construction sites. Two ways in • Certification Track (5–7 weeks): NCCER Core, Fall Protection, plus one additional NCCER certification. This track gets you ready for a union trade or a contractor. • Fast Track – Ironworkers (2 weeks, hands-on): OSHA-30, rebar and fall protection. A letter of intent is no longer required, so qualified candidates can move from enrollment to placement in about two weeks.
