Gorman & Company is seeking a Construction Assistant to support the construction team at Midtown Commons, a 200-unit multifamily development in Milwaukee, WI, consisting of two 100-unit phases with completion anticipated in mid-2028. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, staying active, learning construction skills, and helping keep a jobsite safe, clean, and organized. You’ll work directly with the Field Superintendent and project team to support daily construction activities and help keep the project moving forward. What You’ll Do • Assist the Field Superintendent with daily construction activities, general labor, material handling, and other jobsite tasks to support efficient field operations. • Maintain a clean, organized, and orderly jobsite by managing housekeeping, organizing storage areas, and helping establish and maintain temporary facilities, signage, barricades, and site security measures. • Assist with receiving, inspecting, organizing, securing, and tracking material and equipment deliveries, keeping inventory records accurate and supplies accessible. • Support field measurements, layout verifications, quantity tracking, and other basic construction activities as directed by the Field Superintendent. • Observe work in progress to identify potential quality concerns, site issues, or schedule conflicts, and communicate findings to the appropriate team members. • Support jobsite safety by assisting with daily inspections, monitoring proper use of personal protective equipment, following company and OSHA requirements, and promptly reporting unsafe conditions. • Document project progress through photographs and field observations, help prepare and complete punch lists, protect completed work from damage, and keep tools and equipment organized. What You’ll Bring • A high school diploma or GED. • Previous construction experience is preferred, but a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are essential. • A basic understanding of construction tools, materials, and jobsite safety practices. • The ability to read a tape measure and perform basic construction math. • Strong communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, subcontractors, and coworkers. • A positive, dependable, hands-on approach and the ability to perform physical work in varying weather conditions. • A valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and a driving record that meets company insurance requirements. Why Work With Us at Gorman • Competitive hourly pay starting at $24-$38/hour based on experience. • Gain hands-on experience working on a 200-unit multifamily development in Milwaukee, with two 100-unit phases and anticipated completion in mid-2028. • Build practical construction skills while learning from experienced field leadership and working alongside a collaborative project team. • Enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; short- and long-term disability coverage; and an employee assistance program. • Plan for your future with a 401(k) retirement plan featuring a 6% company match. • Maintain work-life balance with 18 days of paid time off and 11.5 paid holidays, plus paid parental leave. • Access additional benefits, including lifestyle spending accounts, pet insurance, and more.
