About Us:
Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Divcon delivers fully integrated automation solutions nationwide that optimize performance, energy efficiency, and reliability across HVAC, lighting, power monitoring, and mission-critical systems. Leveraging advanced technologies - including Allen-Bradley PLCs, Ignition SCADA, and Delta DDC systems - we combine deep technical expertise with field-tested execution to deliver precise, scalable, and high-performance solutions.
About the role:
The Project Financial Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the financial health and profitability of construction projects for a subcontractor. This position involves detailed cost tracking, budget monitoring, forecasting, and reporting to ensure projects stay on budget; variances are identified early, and accurate financial insights are provided to project managers, estimators, and leadership. The role requires strong analytical skills, collaboration with construction teams, and familiarity with construction-specific financial practices such as job costing, change orders, retainage, and progress billing impacts.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in the development and refinement of project budgets, cost forecasts, and financial plans in coordination with estimators, project managers, and construction leads during bidding, pre-construction, and active execution phases.
• Monitor actual project expenditures (labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors) against budgeted amounts; track and analyze cost variances on a weekly basis, providing detailed explanations and working with project teams to implement mitigation plans for potential overruns.
• Prepare and maintain regular project financial reports, including cost-to-complete forecasts, earned value analyses, job profitability summaries, variance reports, cash flow projections, and other key metrics for internal leadership and project stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field teams to gather real-time cost and progress data, understand cost drivers, validate work completion, and ensure accurate financial tracking.
• Support the review and validation of incoming subcontractor/vendor invoices and outgoing billings to general contractors/owners, ensuring alignment with contract terms, approved change orders, retainage schedules, and budgeted costs.
• Maintain comprehensive project financial documentation, including cost databases, change order logs, budget revisions, lien waiver records, and financial models; ensure files are current, organized, and audit ready.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements in job costing, reporting, and financial workflows; participate in reviews and assist in implementing best practices to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
• Assist with project close-out activities, including final cost reconciliations, profitability analysis, and lessons learned documentation.
• Perform other duties and special projects assigned to support the accounting and finance team, project execution, and the overall success of the company.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, construction management, business administration, or related field required.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including financial modeling, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis functions); experience with construction-specific software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore, Foundation, or similar job costing/ERP systems) is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable recommendations.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple active projects and meet reporting deadlines.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with office and field personnel.
• Detail-oriented with a proactive mindset to anticipate cost risks and identify profitability opportunities.
• Familiarity with construction industry practices (e.g., job costing, change orders, progress billing, retainage, lien waivers, certified payroll) is strongly preferred.
Experience
• 2+ years of experience in project financial analysis, cost control, project accounting, or a related analytical role, preferably in the construction industry, subcontracting, or project-based environments.
• Prior exposure to construction-specific financial tracking (e.g., budget vs. actual analysis, cost-to-complete forecasting, variance reporting, earned value management) is highly desirable.
• Experience working with project teams in a deadline-driven, fast-paced setting and supporting multiple simultaneous projects.
• Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, insightful financial reports and contribute to cost-saving or profitability initiatives.
Physical Requirements:
• Sit for extended periods (typically 6-8 hours per day) while performing computer-based tasks such as financial modeling, data analysis, report generation, and spreadsheet work.
• Use hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, mice, telephones, scanners, printers, and calculators.
• Occasionally stand, walk, bend, stoop, or reach to access filing cabinets, retrieve documents, or attend meetings.
• Occasionally visit active construction sites (with proper PPE) to gather field data, meet with project teams, or verify progress; this may involve walking on uneven surfaces, exposure to typical construction site conditions (noise, dust), and climbing stairs/ladders in limited instances.
• Lift, carry, push, or pull light objects and materials weighing up to 20-25 pounds (e.g., binders, laptops, or file boxes).
• Have sufficient vision (with or without correction) to read computer screens, printed documents, and small print; and sufficient hearing to communicate effectively by phone, in meetings, or on job sites.
• Work in a typical indoor office environment with moderate noise levels, with occasional exposure to outdoor construction environments.
