Senior Structural Designer Southern Company Services - Technical Shared Services – Design Civil Retrofits Position will be located in Birmingham WORK LOCATION • Position will be located in Birmingham,Alabama. • This position will require a mix of both field and office work. • Some office work can be performed remotely (telework/work from home) with the expectation that you can successfully telework and would be willing to travel to work and/or field location on a routine (to be determined) and as-needed basis. JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for providing structural design services for Southern Company Generation.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to produce detailed structural steel and/or concrete design drawings for small to large projects for the Southern Company fleet.   JOB RESPONSIBILITIES • Produce 3D models and design drawings for structural steel and/or reinforced concrete • Prepare layouts and conceptual designs • Communicate and coordinate work with Supervisor, project team, clients, and contractors • Perform site walk-downs for field verification and to address constructability • Review vendor shop fabrication drawings • Prepare steel field fabrication drawings • Prepare material takeoffs and assist with cost estimates • Locating design drawings and other information for the project team • Some non-extended travel to construction sites and client locations is required EDUCATION & JOB EXPERIENCE • Significant experience in structural design/detailing of heavy industrial/power generation facilities is required – 10+ years' experience is strongly preferred • Experience creating engineering and fabrication drawings • High school graduate or equivalent is required • Additional technical training or experience is preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES • AutoCAD proficient • Extensive 3D modeling experience is required • Steel/concrete detailing experience is required for field fabrication drawings • Proficiency using Autodesk Advance Steel and Navisworks structural software is strongly preferred • Experience using laser scans to produce 3D models and create design drawings is strongly preferred • Self-starter • Good verbal communication and technical writing skills • Must be able to produce clear, concise drawings • Good organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously • Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities • Able to work effectively both as part of a team and independently TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS  • This position requires minimal travel primarily to sites within the Southern Company Generation Fleet – up to 10% per year.      ADDITIONAL DETAILS • Limited relocation assistance is available if the selected candidate currently resides outside the area BENEFITS • Competitive Pay • Excellent benefits packages which includes: • Medical and dental coverage • Defined Pension/Cash Balance Benefit Plan • Performance-sharing plan • 401(k) plan with a generous company match • Bonus opportunities • Tuition Reimbursement ***Please submit an updated resume with your application***
