Full description
BAE Systems is seeking a Data Analyst and Visual Developer to support our work as a prime contractor on a high‑profile U.S. Navy weapon system. As a member of our multidisciplinary team that includes systems engineers, logistics analysts, configuration managers, and business managers, you will design, build, deploy, and maintain interactive visual analytics solutions that deliver mission‑critical insights across requirements definition, architecture development, system integration, verification, and various business functions for current and future large‑scale systems. This is a unique opportunity to work on strategic missions through the development of advanced data capabilities and visualization frameworks throughout a systems lifecycle.
In this role, you will apply modern data tools and analytical methods to architect and sustain interactive dashboards, data models, and reporting solutions that enable data‑driven decision‑making for customer teams supporting a DoD program. You will partner closely with functional stakeholders, data engineers, and business leaders to translate raw, distributed datasets into clear, actionable insights delivered through intuitive visual products. This position includes both internal and customer‑facing responsibilities, requiring the ability to communicate complex information effectively and produce high‑quality visual narratives tailored to diverse technical and non‑technical audiences.
The ideal candidate brings a strong passion for data storytelling with the ability to transform complex datasets into compelling visual narratives that drive executive‑level decision‑making. Your work will support the development of program documentation, analyses, schedules, and briefings, ensuring that analytic artifacts meet internal and customer requirements. You will provide data and visualization support across the full SSP portfolio including CPS, SLCM‑N, TRIDENT, Shipboard, and Flight Systems efforts by developing, reviewing, and managing analytic and visual products for programmatic milestones, gate reviews, and system review events.
You will also contribute to the design and evolution of SSP’s data environment by enabling interactive, scalable visualizations aligned with emerging Command‑wide data strategies and best practices, consistent with best practices..
Key Responsibilities include:
• Create, enhance, and optimize reports, dashboards, and scorecards that meet business requirements and adhere to visual design best practices.
• Build robust tabular data models, write efficient LOD or M/DAX calculations, and implement row-level security to ensure accurate, secure analytics.
• Connect products to a variety of data sources (SQL Server, Azure Products, Data Lakes, OData, REST APIs, csv, excel, etc.) using Direct Query/Import.
• Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks in data models, queries, and visualizations; apply aggregation tables, indexing, and query folding where appropriate.
• Maintain documentation of data models, report specifications, and data lineage; enforce naming conventions, version control, and publishing standards.
• Work closely with data engineers, solution architects, and business analysts to gather requirements, validate data quality, and ensure analytical solutions align with enterprise data strategy.
• Set up data refresh schedules, monitor refresh failures, and implement alerting to guarantee continuous availability of reports.
• Stay current on software feature releases, industry trends, and emerging BI technologies; recommend enhancements that increase user adoption and analytical capability.
