Full description

Overview Do you see a room full of unlabeled boxes and feel the urge to roll up your sleeves? Can you spot the right records schedule faster than most people can find their car keys? Do you believe that good records management protects an agency's history, its people, and its privacy? If so, we might be your people. FWI is supporting the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) Office of Administration as the agency settles into its new home in the U.S. Department of Transportation Headquarters West Building. The move uncovered a large volume of government records, and every one of them needs to be identified, evaluated, and handled the right way. We need a sharp, methodical Records Manager to make that happen. This isn't a "shred it and forget it" kind of role. You'll inventory accumulated files, apply records schedules, appraise what needs to be kept, carry out secure destruction of temporary records, and prepare permanent records for transfer to the National Archives. The work has real compliance stakes, a clear finish line, and a team that values doing it right. FWI is expanding rapidly and has been recognized as a 2024, 2025 and 2026 Top Workplace, offering excellent growth opportunities in a collaborative environment. Work Schedule and Location: On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, Core Hours at 1200 New Jersey Ave SE, Washington, DC. Responsibilities • Systematically inventory FTA records identified during the office relocation, both physical and digital • Perform records scheduling and appraisal to determine retention and disposition requirements • Carry out authorized disposition actions, including secure destruction of temporary records • Prepare permanent records for transfer to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) • Ensure all work complies with NARA regulations, the Federal Records Act, and DOT Order 1351.28 • Identify and protect records containing personally identifiable information (PII) or other sensitive information • Maintain clear documentation of every disposition decision, including schedule citations and destruction records • Help FTA reduce its physical and digital storage footprint and lower privacy and security risk • Support the McManus historical collection effort as needed Qualifications Required: • Bachelor's degree in information management, library science, history, or a related field • 5–10 years of experience in federal records management • Strong working knowledge of NARA regulations, the Federal Records Act, the General Records Schedules, and agency-specific records schedules • Experience conducting records inventories, scheduling, appraisal, and disposition • Experience preparing records for transfer to NARA or a Federal Records Center • Understanding of PII handling and secure destruction practices • Excellent organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage large volumes of material methodically • Clear written communication and comfort working onsite with a government client Desired: • Certified Records Manager (ICRM) or completion of NARA records management training • Experience with DOT records programs or DOT Order 1351.28 • Experience with NARA's Electronic Records Archives (ERA) system • Experience supporting an agency office move or records cleanup project FWI is an Equal Opportunity Employer, including disability/vets. Why Join Our Team At FWI, we place the highest importance on creating an exceptional employee experience. You'll have opportunities to achieve your career aspirations through internal promotions, professional development, and other recognition and rewards programs. Join our team and take advantage of the many benefits we offer, including: • Health Insurance • Dental Insurance • Vision Insurance • Long-term and Short-term Disability Insurance • Life Insurance • 401(k) Plan • Holiday Pay • Paid Time Off Pay Range $36.05 hourly to $38.46 hourly, depending on experience, education and clearance level.
