Join Terracon as a Practice Lead-Structural Engineer and help shape the future of our growing Engineering team within our Building Performance Services. This role specializes in investigation, remedial design, and consulting support for the rehabilitation of building structures and enclosures focused on steel and concrete infrastructure. This position is based in the San Antonio, Texas area and supports projects throughout Texas. This position is available in multiple locations, including San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, and Houston, providing flexibility based on your preferred city. This is an opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility early—ranging from client development to delivering complex, high‑quality projects focused on steel and concrete infrastructure. Our work centers on diagnostics, remedial design, and consulting, giving you exposure to challenging, real‑world engineering problems where your expertise matters. The position includes periodic travel around Texas and, depending on business needs, occasional national travel. You’ll collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes BEC, architects, owners, and civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers, broadening your technical perspective while making a visible impact. At Terracon, quality, integrity, and doing what’s right for our people are core with everything we do. Solving building issues and restoring value for our clients is key to this role. If you’re looking for a career-defining opportunity with room to grow and challenging work alongside a collaborative team within a 100 % employee-owned company that continues to prosper, we’d love to connect. Flexible work schedule, to ensure project timelines are completed. • Provide structural engineering and consulting services, including remedial structural design (primarily for existing buildings), failure investigations, condition assessments, analytical studies, rehabilitation of existing and historic structures, specialty structural design, and preparation of structural shop drawings. Focus is steel and concrete. • Collaborate closely with diverse clients, including architects and engineers; private and public owners; local and state governments; educational, recreational, and cultural institutions; real estate and development firms; and general contractors and subcontractors. • Provide design expertise and perform and/or oversee the design and preparation of construction documents for a variety of projects within this office. • Develop and prepare proposals for professional services, including a detailed scope of services, fee development, and project schedule. • Prepare professional reports with clear, logical presentation of technical ideas and recommendations. • Lead multidisciplinary building engineering teams (junior through senior staff) and coordinate personnel, equipment, and technical experts to deliver projects on schedule and within budget. • Supervise and mentor junior and/or less-experienced staff; cross-train team members on structural services as needed. • Be actively involved in one or more technical/professional associations. • Support group and office business development efforts by strengthening existing client relationships and helping develop new clients. • Bachelor’s degree in building science or related building field and 10+ years’ experience in facility assessment. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 14 years’ related experience. • Master’s degree preferred. • A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
