MAIN FUNCTION: The prior authorization specialist is responsible for ensuring that payers are prepared to reimburse Griffin Hospital for scheduled services in accordance with the payer-provider contract. The Authorization Specialist will contact the payers to request service authorization and may collect clinical, financial, and/or demographic information from patients as needed. EDUCATION: Associate degree in healthcare or business administration and/or related coursework, or comparable experience. EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years of experience in a healthcare performing related tasks KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Excellent communication and customer service skills. Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare insurance processes. Strong attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and multitask.
