Full description

Overview A wonderful family in McLean, Virginia, is seeking a warm, dependable, experienced daytime newborn care specialist to care for their son, due in early December 2026. This is a temporary position lasting 12–16 weeks. The family is open to either a live-in or live-out arrangement. The primary focus of this role is attentive, hands-on care for their newborn during the day. They are looking for someone who brings a calm, quiet, consistent presence and has real experience caring for infants in a home setting. The candidate must be comfortable working alongside other household staff. The schedule is 8:00am to 4:00pm, five to six days per week. One parent works from home, and the other works a hybrid schedule, so you will often be working with a parent in the house. Your shift does not overlap with the overnight newborn care provider's, so you will stay in sync by leaving written notes and texting, keeping the baby's feeding, sleep, and daily routines consistent around the clock. Local candidates are preferred, but the family is willing to relocate the right person. Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities Newborn Care & Feeding • Full daytime care for our newborn, including feeding, burping, diapering, bathing, dressing, and soothing • Bottle preparation and feeding, and supporting feeding routines as directed by the parents • Following and reinforcing the feeding and nap schedule established with the overnight caregiver • Keeping a clear written log of feedings, diapers, and naps, and leaving notes or texting updates for the overnight caregiver and parents • Following safe sleep practices at all times Engagement & Enrichment • Age-appropriate engagement such as tummy time, gentle play, and plenty of face-to-face interaction • Reading, listening to music, and singing with the baby throughout the day • Supporting healthy early development and sharing observations with the parents Baby-Related Household Tasks This role is focused only on the baby. Household tasks are limited to the baby's own needs: Baby laundry: washing, folding, and putting away the baby's clothing, bedding, and burp cloths • Keeping the nursery clean, organized, and restocked • Cleaning and sterilizing bottles, pump parts, and feeding supplies • Keeping the changing station and diaper bag stocked • Tracking baby supplies and shopping for them as needed • Occasional baby-related errands Qualifications • Kind, considerate, and brings a quiet, calm presence to the home • Consistency and reliability, showing up on time and following through every day • Comfortable partnering with parents and communicating clearly in writing, through notes and texts, with an overnight caregiver you won't overlap with • Dependable, trustworthy Requirements • In-home experience caring for newborns and infants (required) • Background as a Newborn Care Specialist or doula (strongly preferred) • Solid understanding of newborn feeding, sleep, and development • Fluent English; Spanish is welcome but not required • A valid driver's license and, preferably, a reliable personal vehicle for occasional errands if local(you will not be driving the baby) • Up-to-date vaccinations, including MMR, DTaP, Tdap, Varicella, Hib, seasonal influenza, and COVID-19 • Comfortable around dogs - The family has 3 small dogs • Excellent references • Legal to work in the U.S. Salary and Benefits The family is offering $40 to $55/hr, depending on experience. The position will start around 12/6/2026 for 12 to 16 weeks. If living in, accommodations consist of your own bed and bath.
