This position may be filled at multiple education and training levels, including candidates with a bachelor’s degree in biology, public health, or a related field (with substantive clinical research coordination experience) and candidates with a master’s degree. The specific appointment will be calibrated to the candidate’s background and the laboratory’s active operational needs. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Coordinator plans, directs, and supervises the complex administrative and fiscal functions of the laboratory’s active research initiatives. The role requires sound judgment, operational discipline, and the capacity to coordinate across a multi-institutional research environment spanning UT Health San Antonio, the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, the Foundation for Advancing Veterans Health Research, and federal sponsor contacts. The successful candidate will contribute materially to the laboratory’s capacity to execute its scientific mission. • Responsible for the complete administrative research process for a defined group to include pre/post award activities and regular communications and meetings with faculty and staff. • Coordinates multiple research protocols and grant submissions; monitors budgets, spending, purchasing and participant payments. • May conduct literature searches and assist with publications. • Prepares and submits regulatory documents to the Institutional Review Board to obtain and maintain approval for research studies. • Monitors ongoing activities to ensure compliance with local, state & federal regulations. • Coordinates educational sessions and journal review meetings; collaborates to provide education and proctor/mentorship opportunities; may oversee the activities of student associates. • Maintains research subject files for each study and enters all subject data into research database. • Performs all other duties as assigned. • The lab is currently engaged in exciting, state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary projects focused on infection, aging, asthma, and exercise, and job duties are aligned with these research initiatives. • Demonstrated knowledge in grant administration, research coordination, data collection, and/or facilitating the patient experience in research projects. • Working knowledge with electronic health record systems and familiarity with medical terminology. • Ability to coordinate the diverse components of the project by quality project planning, execution and change control to achieve required balance of time, cost and quality. • Strong written and verbal communication skills to include the ability to generate high quality, technical writing and written/oral presentations. • Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and databases. • Detail oriented with meticulous planning, organizational and negotiating skills.
