Every day, over 4,000 employees at 10 production sites and more than twenty sales and service companies worldwide give everything for our customers. With our comprehensive portfolio, we offer solutions for all types of vacuum applications. We are not only driven by the highest quality standards, but it is also our vision to be the most sustainable and fastest growing market player in our industry to drive technology for a sustainable future. We are currently hiring for an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist to be based onsite at our Tempe, Arizona Service Center. The targeted compensation range for this position is $82,000 to $90,000 per year, depending on the selected candidate's qualifications, skills, and relevant experience. The EHS Specialist is the primary on-site owner of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs at the Tempe, Arizona Service Center. The position’s principal responsibility is to independently evaluate EHS regulatory obligations and operational risks, advise site management, develop and administer site-level EHS controls, and determine or recommend appropriate compliance and risk-reduction strategies that materially affect business operations. Job Responsibilities Site EHS Ownership, Authority & Independent Judgment • Serve as the accountable site EHS program owner; apply independent judgment to formulate, adapt, and implement site EHS practices that affect compliance, employee protection, and operational continuity. • Analyze significant EHS issues, weigh compliance obligations, cost, operational feasibility, and risk among alternative solutions, and decide or recommend a course of action without prescribed step-by-step direction. • Advise site leadership on EHS decisions, including changes in operating practices, risk acceptance, corrective-action investments, and compliance priorities; provide recommendations that inform material management decisions. • Within company policy and delegated authority, require interim protective measures and recommend pausing unsafe activities when an imminent risk exists; promptly escalating major exposures, significant expenditures, or matters needing corporate approval. • Maintain independent day-to-day ownership of site EHS planning and management-system effectiveness while partnering with operations and escalating issues that require the Director of EHS or legal/regulatory specialist review. EHS Program Implementation & Compliance • Own and administer the Tempe Service Center’s site-level EHS programs; interpret corporate standards and applicable requirements and determine how they should be implemented in local operating practices. • Plan and direct risk-based safety, environmental, and compliance reviews; evaluate findings, determine priorities, and establish corrective-action strategies rather than merely record observations. • Independently assess hazards and alternative risk controls, select appropriate measures within delegated authority, and recommend higher-impact operational or capital improvements to site leadership. • Evaluate applicability and implications of OSHA, EPA, Arizona, and local EHS requirements; advise management on compliance options and decisions and escalate significant or disputed legal and regulatory risks to EHS leadership. • Maintain oversight of required EHS records, permits, compliance calendars, logs, and audit evidence; evaluate gaps and initiate changes to site compliance processes as warranted. • Evaluate site chemical inventory, SDS, and hazardous-material controls; determine necessary program improvements and coordinate applicable reporting and regulatory submissions. • Own site hazardous and universal waste compliance processes, including accumulation controls, vendor performance, shipment documentation, and resolution of identified compliance deficiencies. • Evaluate applicability of stormwater, air, wastewater, spill prevention, and other environmental requirements; develop site controls and recommend changes when operations or permit conditions change. Safety Programs, Training & Employee Engagement • Determine site-specific EHS training needs based on regulatory obligations, changing processes, and risk trends; establish training priorities and oversee implementation and effectiveness. • Administer and evaluate respiratory protection, hearing conservation, PPE, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, emergency preparedness, and other applicable programs; determine when existing controls require revision. • Lead the risk assessment and periodic review of Job Safety and Environmental Analyses (JSEAs); exercise professional judgment in identifying hazards, PPE, environmental waste streams, and adequate controls. • Establish approaches to strengthen employee hazard and near-miss reporting, assess participation and trends, and recommend improvements to site leadership. • Advise Safety Champions, supervisors, and employees on EHS priorities and risk-control strategies, and influence adoption of improvements across site operations. • Evaluate contractor activities for EHS risks and determine necessary site-specific contractor controls and orientation requirements, consistent with company policy. Incident Management & Corrective Actions • Lead or independently direct incident, injury, near-miss, spill, and property-damage investigations; evaluate evidence and potential causes, determine corrective-action approaches, and advise leaders on prevention measures. • Establish accountability for recording and closing unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and audit findings in the EHS management system; assess whether corrective actions adequately address the identified risks. • Analyze incident trends and EHS performance data to identify systemic risks, compare remediation options, and recommend changes to management practices or site operating controls. • Provide site leadership and the Director of EHS with recommendations and risk assessments on significant incidents, regulatory issues, and unresolved corrective actions; promptly escalate urgent or material concerns. ISO 14001 EMS & Audit Support • Own the site’s implementation and continual improvement of applicable ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements, including environmental aspects and impacts, compliance obligations, objectives, operational controls, and documented information. • Plan and coordinate site participation in internal EHS and EMS audits and external regulatory, customer, and certification audits; advise management on risks and priorities arising from findings. • Lead site audit readiness, evaluate objective evidence, establish corrective-action plans, and independently assess effectiveness of implemented improvements. • Conduct and document site-level environmental compliance evaluations, interpret findings, determine corrective-action priorities, and report significant matters to management. Operational & Site Support • Evaluate proposed new equipment, chemicals, processes, contractors, and facility changes for potential EHS impacts; recommend or establish required controls before implementation within delegated authority. • Act as the site’s principal EHS adviser to Tempe employees and management; independently provide interpretations, recommendations, and alternatives on EHS compliance and operational risk. • Evaluate emergency response scenarios and site vulnerabilities, determine improvements to emergency preparedness procedures and drills, and coordinate response planning with site leadership. • Present EHS performance, compliance risks, corrective-action priorities, and recommendations in site leadership and operational meetings; influence decisions on operational controls and improvements. • Work primarily onsite at the Tempe Service Center; travel occasionally for company meetings, audits, training, investigations, and EHS projects as business needs require. • Perform other duties and EHS projects as assigned.
